New Today Screen Looks Like Sh!t!!!!

i want to make my own themes so i d/l the ms theme creator 2, created some images in adobe illustrator and then saved them as jpgs. did everything as described in the program, put them on the phone/ppc and the look horrible, like i am using 99% compression. i get the same results regardless of whether or not i use jpg or bitmap, or regardless of the compression level.

the ones that come with the phone, windows default and bliss look excellent. i have made the images to the correct size of 268x240, but i wouldn't show them to anybody, they are horrible...

please help

edit: i d/l a theme from here - mammoth, and it looks excellent. what am i doing wrong with my screen? should i make the files in photoshop vs illustrator?

edit2: i made it in ps and it looks much better, the item i am putting on it is more of a piece of line art, so maybe i am expecting too much clarity from a 320x240 screen..... i guess i will use only raster art and not try to get vector art quality.....

edit3: after much reading i found the script ThemeBuilder2003 and must say this is one excellent set of scripts. although it is not gui based, it easily puts all the others out there to shame in terms of quality. the quality is back again to line art compared to heavily compress vector art :). let me know if you want me to post screen shots comparing the difference, it is night and day :) :) :) :) :)

thanks for the info, do you know what software they are using to make those screens? the m$ theme creator suck. i like to use line art in my images and it destroyed any quality with them.
