so if i undedrstand you correctly, if i place my themes just on the memory, not in a folder, i should be able to access them from the Today menu? i don't think putting them in My Documents works....tried that but didn't have any luck. i'll try just putting them in the root directory. thanks.....
I've got mine on my SD card in My Documents\themes and it works just fine....although, I'm using Facelift and it might check all folders under My Documents for .tsk files. Dunno.......

Yes having them in the root directory of a memory card should work fine

I think you can use the Today menu to access them from the root of external memory and from a "My Documents" folder on that media.
If you use something else to access them (MS has a free utility - Theme Switcher, which comes with the MS Theme Generator) you can read them from many other places.
I am using a pretty good utility from Funny Snake (www.FunnySnake.com) called Theme King. It does a pretty good job, and offers more features than the MS tool. You can also look on the AximSite downloads area that are trial versions of other utilities, and many other.
just my two cents here . . . my themes are on my SD card in no particular folder. i have had it that way since i bought my first CF and or SD cards. when i go to bring up a new theme, they are all found just fine including the pre-installed ones. :) i guess "no folder" at all is the root directory?

You are exactly right. That is the way I have mine set up too.
Themes can be placed anywhere. I have a folder called "My Documents" on all my storage cards and built-in memory. The trick to be able to view and use files placed in a "My Documents" folder located on a storage card is to make sure you don't have a hidden file on your storage card called "ignore_mydocs". You can view hidden files in File Explorer by tapping-and-holding on a blank area in File Explorer and selecting "View all Files". If you find a file called "ignore_mydocs", erase it and you will now be able to "see" themes placed there.
I think i read a couple of times that if your running PPC2003 you can put the files anywhere.
I found this did'nt work, so followed all the advice about putting them in the windows folder...and hey presto new screens!

yeah.....they work fine if I put them in the Windows folder. I am looking to place them on an expansion card (SD) and be able to access them from the Today Menu.
Any other ideas?????? I am wondering if there is some kind of software conflict or something........?????
