Hmm Start Menu Width Problems

When I started creating themes a few days ago for my Today screen, everything went smoothly, but today, after having one item in my recently used programs section of the Start menu, the menu seems to have permanently stretched width-wise, causing a beginning of tiling.

The problem is well described in this thread: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...art+menu+wider as this user had the same problem, but no answer was given.

The program responsible for the width problem is now out of the recently used items, but width hasn't come back to normal.

I'm using WME2003 SE, and have created themes both in MS Theme Generator and in TKCreater. I performed a soft-reset to see if it would sort the problem, but unfortunately, it hasn't changed.

Any tips on how to get rid of this??

I had this problem for a while. Knew exactly which app was causing it too (at least for me). Finally figured out how to fix it too.

The solution is to realize that the problem isn't the app itself, its the length of the name of the shortcut to the app in the Start Menu. The real epiphany occured when I realized that when you tap on Programs in the Start Menu, you're really accessing a part of the Start Menu and shortcuts to the actual apps.

The trick is to go into \My Device\Windows\Start Menu\ and rename the offending shortcut name(s) to something shorter.

When I did that, my problem was solved and hasn't returned since. And if it does.... Well, I know how to fix it now.

Fantastic, that did the job! I was sure I was in for some problems but it was easy to fix.

Thanks for the quick response!
