Theme Generator Questions...
I created an image to use as my background - 480x640 .jpg - transferred it to the SD card, used the picture app on the Axim to set it as the background - beautiful - EXCEPT - it killed spb Pocket Plus - shouldn't this have worked?

I downloaded the Microsoft Theme Generator, and I have looked at the app a little...

1 - How do you change the icons with it? All I see is the background image and the colors for the menu bars, text, etc.

2 - The Axim has a theme switcher built in, so do I need to install the theme switcher that comes with the Theme Generator too?

1) You can't.
2) No. Pocketplus actually has a theme switcher if you'd rather not go to the Today options and change it that way.

How exactly did it kill PocketPlus? Also, SPB has a free extention to the MS Theme Generator that allows you to create extended themes for use with PocketPlus.

See this thread

Looking back, it might have been a clash between the 2 theme switchers... What is "extended themes" I saw that add-on, but didn't really know what it was all about.

I'm cookin' now--- creating themes like a madman and they work! An unexpected discovery, though. Now I have a great pic of my 6 mo old son as my background, but he is covered up by all the text in PocketBreeze and the icons in PocketPlus --- grrrrrrrr. Oh well, those apps are too convenient to drop. After all of this, probably back to a standard blue background.

I have the "extended" generator installed, and there is an option for "VGA Compatible" - what exactly does that mean? I created several before the extended add-on was installed, and they work, so I guess they were also "VGA Compatible"? -- Unless that answers my next question, which is - why doesn't the image look better than it does?

OK - to heck with it - been trying to create an extended vga theme to compare to the earlier ones (trying to answer my own question about pic quality) and I can't get it to work - needing all kinds of files copied everywhere - just not worth it, especially with all of the other stuff I have running on the "today" screen....

Extended themes just include extra bits for PocketPlus to match your today theme a little better, like icons. I don't think that the MS Theme Generator is VGA compatible, that's probably why your image looks bad...it's most likely been scaled down to QVGA.

Now another element of my uncertainty... From reading around a little more, I found out that I might not be in "VGA" mode - I guess that opens the question of what exactly is "True VGA", and what is required to get in that mode? Since the x50v is advertised as VGA, surely it either comes out of the box that way, or has a system to change to it built in...

You're in VGA mode. What I think you're seeing are the references to "true VGA" mode in which everything is almost too tiny to use. Here's one of the threads about it:
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...true+vga+ozvga
I tried using true vga but just could justify it. You can d/l one of the apps they mention to see for yourself what it is though.
