Themes - SVGA / QVGA

I'm confused as to the difference between SVGA and QVGA themes when using an X50v. Is one for true VGA?

I'm just not sure which version of some themes I'm supposed to be downloading. I'm looking for themes that don't need to be displayed in true VGA.

All true VGA switcher (ie SE_VGA and ozCGA) are extending "regular WM2003 SE VGA theme" at first switch to make them true VGA compatible.

Thanks. I'm actually not going to be running the X50v in true VGA mode (ie. with SE_VGA) the majority of the time.

What's QVGA then? Do they look better on the X50v than a standard theme?

Hmmm.

Since the x50v is a VGA device, the screen is VGA. As long as you don't use "hack" software to force "true VGA" the old (QVGA) themes will work fine. If you are in "true VGA" mode, the old (QVGA) themes will take up 1/4 less space so you will show a 2x2 block of the same them.

The VGA screen on the x50v is always VGA - and it looks great. :approve:

I am sure someone else here can explain it better.

Good explanation. I was concerned that screens NOT Svga I saw on pocketthemes.com would not look good. There is a quality difference between standard and QVGA though, correct?

Absolutely, I have an Axim X5 and there is a "huge" difference. It makes it different to even then about returning to a QVGA device. However, I do not know about the displays on the newer QVGA devices like the X50.

last question. . . displayiing a standard screen on the VGA screen will not look as good as a screen made for VGA? So I should get SVGA screens if I want to run in true VGA mode, QVGA if running in normal mode, and should stay away from standard screens (because they won't take advantage of the VGA screen similar to how some programs don't look right)?

I usually do not "hack" my x50v screen settings. So my screen is in the default setting. I have purposely done this because I like some of my old themes and some software that I use isn't VGA compatible yet. Plus, I don't want to deal with all the soft resets necessary to swap back and forth - just a personal preference.

I do not really have a problem with the way the themes look; however, some of the programs I use could look better. I am sure this will all be taken care of in the near future by the software folks.

There is a program for your PC called ThemeMaker McDeb that will allow you to create your own VGA themes in landscape or portrait. Take a look at www.mcdeb.com. :approve:

You can create VGA themes and load them to your x50v. The device will take care of the default presentation. Then when everone finally becomes compatible with VGA, all your themes will be ready to go.:)
