psShutXP VGA Skin for Axim X50v

I built a VGA skin for the X50v if anyone in interested in DL'ing it. NOTE - The skin is pre-embedded in the application, to save space and for ease of installation.

EDIT 3/9/05 :
24va correctly identified that you don't need to DL the program from the author to make it work correctly. However I am still going to keep the authors web site linked because, while this is freeware and no mention is made of copyright infringement or distribution in the license file, credit should go where credit is due. :approve: I'm making the skins and embedding them to save space. I didn't code the app. :rolling:

I have added the 'Blood' skin below. I'd recommend creating a directory in your Axim's BIS called psShutXP and copying this file over to the directory. Rename the file to psShutxp.exe. From File Explorer (or whatever your choice is) locate the file in your BIS and run if from there once. When the file is run the first time it will create a 'psShutXP' shortcut and another shortcut called 'Display Switch' in your Programs Tab. You can assign either to a button if this is your preference. Display switch will immediately put your display at rest. I choose to activate the psShutXP program using 'Button 4', instead of 'Home'.

Enjoy!

File format .exe - I'm not zipping these for two reasons. 1) Most ppl have broadband anymore and the file size is less than 80k to begin with which makes for a relatively quick DL, 2) you can DL this to your PPC and make it run without any external programs.

That's pretty cool, however psShutXP is just and clever inconvenience for me. It's easier to just push the off button or reset my Asus A730w.

Well. I don't know where the reset-button on the ASUS is, but mine is on the backside and it is far more easy and quick to use something like "psShutXP""

I agree with you on the power-button. But I have the habit to do it by software. In my case I use for both (reset and off) Handymenu

skins stopped working for me for this program right after upgrading to the new ROM. Do you have the new ROM for the x50v?

Yes I'm running the new new version of the A02 ROM (february). I don't know how you get skins to work for this program so I opened it up with reshack and changed the bitmap in there. This way it's emebedded in the EXE and not an external resource. Should save space too.

There is a double guarded 'hidden' feature of this program too. If you click in the upper right hand side of the menu (the last L in Dell) you trigger a Hard Reset, but don't worry it asks you twice (according to the designers website) before performing the reset. I know it asks you at least once!

Something Else I did because I don't use the "Home" key (worthless IMHO) I reassigned it to psShutXP so that I can use that as a multifuntion power button, screen, power, or reset. The soft reset function is the handiest for me, and I know it's all a matter of personal opinion and what you're doing with your ppc. I "tinker" with stuff, program, etc. so the soft reset feature is a big bonus to me, not to mention that this app has a very small foot print in memory.

it's the whole enchilada, just unzip and copy to your x50v and you are good to go.

Once launched it will create a display switch icon (turns off display) and a PsShutXP icon in your program folder.

Hey MetalHead, I like your power off icon better than the original, can you create a power off icon so it can be reshacked into the program

This'll do until Nice Start gets VGA compatability.

I have it already embedded in the file but the host I go through is having problems on their server farm. I'll post when they're able to take file again.

BTW don't know if you knew or not but the link I provide above was the skin already reshacked into the file. DOH!

Ahh, Well that explains it. I ditched my incognito server and placed it on my comcast account. It should be up indefinately now. I edited the original post, having redirected the links. DL to your hearts content!

Oh yeah, the power button icon has now been incorporated into the file.

That's nice we'll try that as soon as I'm home.

It's true clicking the top-right corner of the program will trigger a hard reset, and it asks you twice. Tried it myself.

I think PSSHUTXP is AWESOME!!!

Mainly because of the SCREEN OFF and SOFT RESET functions, but also, some people in the forum have been experiencing the PAINT coming off the POWER button on the AXIM, so I prefer using software when I can!!!!
