Device: dell axim x50v
O/S: Windows Mobile 2003 SE
01. On the SD card, I created a folder "My Programs"
02. In the "My Programs" folder, I created folders
"CAB Installer" and "Tweaks2k2 Net"
03. Copied file "cabinstl_en.exe" and the .cab file for
tweaks2k2 to folder "CAB Installer" via ActiveSync
04. Tapped file "cabinstl_en.exe", checked the "Do not
Delete CAB file" and "Associate Cabinstl with CAB files"
check-boxes and then tapped Exit
05. Tapped the tweaks2k2's cab file, Cabinstl shows the
correct file in the "CAB" box
06. Tapped the Path button (to select the destination folder),
a window (similar to File Explorer) with the header label
Cabinstl appears
07. Tapped the "SD card" folder icon, but nothing happens ...
I am not able to navigate and select) the destination
folder
08, I have experienced the same issue in trying the same
process with about seven other cab files
I ended up undoing step 04. and installed the tweaks's cab file
to storage memory.
Any suggestions? I do need to be able to install a program to
a specific folder on a storage card.
Your procedure sounds OK to me.
Seems like your SD card could be locked - just a wild guess :o
Why don't you try to do an install to the Built-In Storage - as a test ?
CabInst comes in a multitude of variations.
I'm using the 1.04 version from S-K-Tool - click here
My SD card is not locked. I did installed (without any issues) the tweaks2k2 cab
file to the built-in-storage.
I am also using version Cabinstl, version 1.04
It appears that this question has been asked before (post titled "Installation of cabs" ..
sorry, I am unable to provide a link due to my number of posts), but unfortunately
there were no responses.
Try moving CABINSTL out of the programs folder to a different folder and see if that makes a difference...I've got it saved on my SD card in a CAB Installer folder directly off the root and never had problems. I also put all my .CAB files in a CAB folder directly off the root (don't know if that makes any difference at all).

Moved the "CAB installer" folder to the root of the SD card.
Moved all the .cab files to a folder "CABS" located at the root of the SD card.
Run cabinstl and tried to install a cab file ... same results, I cannot
navigate to any folder in the SD card ... as a result PATH always equal "Install
to default location"
Additional info: the O/S is WM 2003 SE ROM A02 ... is it critical to update to ROM A05?

Thanks for your assistance.
I use Cabinstl on my windows mobile 2003se pocket pc (an Ipaq hx2415). I don't think you need to upgrade the ROM to get it to work, but a hard reset may be needed.
On my X50v w2k3se I have the Cabinst.exe in the root of the BIS.
The cab files are usually loaded into \My Documents in the main root.
And the dll is stored as Windows\cabinstl.dll
I inherited this device, one of my first steps was to try to upgrade it to WM5.
One of the steps was to (once update was completed) disconnect the device
and do a hard-reset . Supposedly, the result would be to see WM Version 5.0
in the About screen.
I tried a few times but the OS did not change after a hard reset. Thereafter, I
decided to leave the OS alone as I read that WM 2003 SE was more stable.
Should I have run the "wm5 downgrade to wm2003se for vga" file?
