If you look at my "rough" diagram (attached) ...
I'm hoping to devise a device that acts a central controller for consumer electronics & home automation.
So far the most promising solution I've found is this (sorry not allowed to post URL's yet)
openremote.org/display/HOME/OpenRemote
You don't have to use their reference hardware but something low power/profile like it would be ideal.
I was thinking of integrating the entire thing into my existing HTPC/PVR but I'm not sure yet, it might be better to have dedicated machine.
To run this software it's critical one has JRE + Apache Tomcat installed/configured properly.
I'd in turn probably run this software on top of Ubuntu or LinuxMCE.
This controller would be able to send/receive via;
Internet, Wifi, Ethernet, IR, X10, some proprietary RF, & numerous other HA/CE related protocols.
A critical part of this system is a hand-held that interface nicely with the controller.
This hand-held would ideally also have IR integrated, but it's not imperative as Wifi would be used mostly.
Interested in other peoples ideas, have you tried something similar or have you used a better base platform?
Cheers,
Jed
