Best WM UR software today?

Has anyone tried out all the major vendors still around?
I don't want to fork out for al of them...

About to try the package that comes with the CF IR booster called 'ultramote'.
However I believe there's others which are prolly better...

If I upgrade to the latest rom (6.5.x?) will they still work?

Cheers

Come on! Anyone?
Surely these old forums have still got life in them?
They were pretty lively back in the aximsite days!

You have asked the same question on several sites and nobody has answered you, perhaps that is because nobody knows what you mean by UR Software.

Edit: Just dawned on me you mean Universal Remote Control software.
Try Novi Remote.

UR = universal remote

I would've thought people that are knowledgeable in this area would at least be able to guess.
But you never know...

Are you able to change the thread/post title?

Aside from all that... any input yourself?
Tis 420am, bed time, thanks, night.

Most newer windows mobile devices don't have an IR port, so there's probably not so much demand for universal remote software these days. Seems to me the emphasis by developers these days is on remote control software that allows a person to control the computer from a windows mobile device.

After reading your first post, I thought UR was a typo of IR. :D

Rule of thumb -- don't use acronyms without defining them at their first use. Why make it harder for people to help you?

As for the question, visit my links page and search for "remote" (be careful, though, because some of those are software for remote control of a PC from a PDA ).

If you look at my "rough" diagram (attached) ...
I'm hoping to devise a device that acts a central controller for consumer electronics & home automation.

So far the most promising solution I've found is this (sorry not allowed to post URL's yet)
openremote.org/display/HOME/OpenRemote

You don't have to use their reference hardware but something low power/profile like it would be ideal.
I was thinking of integrating the entire thing into my existing HTPC/PVR but I'm not sure yet, it might be better to have dedicated machine.

To run this software it's critical one has JRE + Apache Tomcat installed/configured properly.
I'd in turn probably run this software on top of Ubuntu or LinuxMCE.

This controller would be able to send/receive via;
Internet, Wifi, Ethernet, IR, X10, some proprietary RF, & numerous other HA/CE related protocols.

A critical part of this system is a hand-held that interface nicely with the controller.
This hand-held would ideally also have IR integrated, but it's not imperative as Wifi would be used mostly.

Interested in other peoples ideas, have you tried something similar or have you used a better base platform?

Cheers,
Jed

I'm guessing in light of this direction none of the UR software would be suitable?
As it's geared entirely towards more basic functions on WMC computers via wifi, or direct IR comms to CE devices.

In the short term I'd prolly use my hand-held as the central controller for CE devices via IR anyway.
Hence the basis for my original post....

so any further recommendations for IR software for WM.
Novii's on the short list to try...

Or any other comments on my plans outlined above.
Anyone tried anything like this?! ;-)

Cheers
