I have quite a few myself. Unfortunately, the best way to move them is one by one, then try the program to make sure it still works ok.

Even when you install to a memory card, some files get put into your main memory. It's pretty much unavoidable. So the ability to move these files to another location can really be helpful, especially when you have over 100 programs/games installed (like I do).

What's the point? The point is freeing up over 4 MB from Main Memory. :) I have an X3i, and Main Memory is a precious resource. MemMaid has greatly increased the performance of my Axim with this feature . . .

Maybe you're not...

Most applications will place DLLs into the Windows directory, regardless of where you install the program.

For example Pocket Informant places several DLLs and other files in the Windows folder (In RAM!), and two of them, PITools and PIResources take up about 1.5 MB of RAM alone!

You can use MemMaid, or a little freeware application called "Where Is My RAM", to see what's where - you might be surprised!

EDIT: Be forewarned, though: Storage cards can be a little slow to load necessary files, like DLLs, and if you have programs that start immediately after a soft reset the program will not start successfully because the DLL didn't load in time.

And Built-In Storage is even a bit slower than most storage cards!

That is correct, this is why you move one apps dll's over at a time. Then, test via a soft reset or a launch to see if you will receive an error. I usually then start restoring dlls to their original location until I no longer receive the error.

I don't know if this thread is still being updated or checked, but I have some programs which worked for me that I can add to the list:

HP Mobile Print - every dll for all the associated programs (Mobile Printing, Mobile Printing System, Mobile Printing Viewer Control) is movable EXCEPT HPPrintUtil.dll; only this one needs to stay in \windows.

GregSoft TaskPlus - TaskZodi.dll

Resco Keyboard Pro - RKbdSvr.dll

Skyscape (any medical reference program from this company; I have several) - Archimedes.dll, js32CE.dll, smARTlib.dll, ssartworkz.dll, sszlib.dll

Bellkin Wireless PDA Keyboard (WPDAK) - WPDAKSetup.dll, sntddi.dll, snttch.dll, sntkey.dll
***sntw.dll could not be moved

Inventop Proximity Mail - all dll's

Bryght Flash Player - cetx.dll

Other dll's (used by various programs) - vbscript.dll, pvbform2.dll, pvbdecl.dll

Also, although I didn't use Memmaid, I moved all the dll's from \windows\appmgr and edited the registry for the new filepath. Then I tried uninstalling and reinstalling a few programs to make sure everything worked. That saved a lot of memory, and it'd be great if Memmaid could do that for me. Does anybody know what those dll's are for, anyway? It seems like there should be one for every program installed, but there isn't.

I hope this helps somebody. It took me a long time to try out every one, but I saved more than 5M of main storage.

I think those are dll's used by the application during install/uninstall.

Hi,
Can I move appmgr files to SC card or only to IFS?
After moving the files, Do I need to edit one registry per application I have installed (more than 100 in my case) or is just a matter of a few resistries?
Thanks

The appmgr files are read by the OS, moving them will prevent a successful uninstall or re-install.

In addition to this, some files in the appmgr may be locked by the system.
