Exclamation Registry tweaks!

After reading the tutorial on Aximsite for tweaking the registry, and using the "Restrict users from installing apps and changing settings" tweak, I decided to poke around the registry some more. I was looking for other entries named Redirect as mentioned in the tutorial. Here's what I found....You guys may or may not already know of these, but I figured I'd post them just in case.

Adjust the screen contrast:
HKLM\ControlPanel\Contrast
Rename the Redirect key to xRedirect. This places a Contrast icon on the Settings|System tab.

Control when the backlight is turned off and on:
HKLM\ControlPanel\Backlight
Rename the Redirect key to xRedirect. This places a Backlight icon on the Settings|System tab.

Displays the power of the batteries. Just a different looking screen:
HKLM\ControlPanel\Power
Rename the Redirect key to xRedirect. This places another Power icon on the Settings|System tab.

This appears to display any OS update that have been applied. I'm not sure though.
HKLM\ControlPanel\Updates
Rename the Redirect key to xRedirect. This places an Updates icon on the Settings|Connections tab.

I don't have a modem so I'm not sure what this is. It looks like some sort of phone dialer. But when I click the icon, nothing happens. Maybe someone with a CF modem can check this out and post the results.
HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone
Rename the Redirect key to xRedirect. This places a Phone icon on the Settings|System tab.

You must do a soft reset for any of the above tweaks to take affect!

I tried the Contrast tweak. It does display a Contrast icon in Settings. However, when you change the contrast setting it does nothing.

By the way, I love the binary quote in your signature!

You're right. Hmmmmm......Maybe the driver doesn't support it. I'l have to look into that again later.

Yea I like that quote too! I enjoy the puzzled looks and responses I get. I think it was Thinkgeek.com that has a T-shirt with that printed on it.

I believe the contrast setting is actually a registry remnant of PPC 2000. On the older Casio E-1XX series using the hast display you could adjust both the brightness of the backlight, and the contrast.

Wow. I just tried the Contrast tweak and it seems that it is definitely fixed on the Axim.

Sorry. I meant to say that no matter how much you move the slider, it will stay the same contrast.

I also found one for AdminPassword (HKLM\ControlPanel\AdminPassword) w/c seems to bring out a Policy icon to "Restrict addition of new programs" This seems good for company PDA's.

Yea that's the one that started me to wonder. It's mentioned here in the FAQ's.

Where do you find these settings. I have a registry editor, but can not find HKLM!

Thanks!

Finally I am interested to know the result of the setting of the contrast: it has improved the contrast when it is sunny or not?
Thanks

It seems the contrast setting on the PPC 2002 OS is there only for the units that have video drivers installed that support that feature. That's why the registry hack exists. It was put there so the OEM's that don't provide a contrast setting, can turn it off. So for the Ax, yes you can enable it, but the driver doesn't have a contrast feature, therefore it does nothing for the display. At the time when I posted that, I didn't realize that was the case.
