I found an adapter that will let you plug PCMCIA cards into a CF slot. Could I plug that in, then plug in a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card and get USB 2.0 support on my Axim X5? (yes, I know that will stick out close to 6" from the PPC, but that is a much mroe inexpensive alternative to the RATOC USB adapter that's $138 (and this would, in theory give USB 2.0 support instead of 1.1)
Anyone tried this kinda trick? Pls post back ASAP, I'm heading out to get the CF->PCMCIA card in like 2 hours or so if this'll work

It wouldn't give you 2.0 because no PDA's CF interface can reach up to those speeds. While this may work, you will still need the drivers to get hte USB interface. It's worth a try, why dont you post back and tell us if it works.
Oh darn, you mean I cant use it to burn DVDs on my PDA? (lol!!! j/k!!)
I'll be sure to let everyone know how it turns out. (as for drivers, I figure if _I_ thought this up, then 500 ppl before me have and some of them will have hacked some drivers from win98/xp/etc and/or the RATOC drivers or soemthing to get this to work. )

Reason: typos
I am looking for that exact adapter where did you get and how much is it?
The same place I got all my axim parts (minus one battery): http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWA:IT
Granted I didn't get my axim from this seller, but still, it was ebay. and this guy, last I checked, still had several CF -> PCMCIA adapters avalible.

The problem with this adapter is that you cannot see all of the original PCMCIA data lines. A CF card uses a subset of 11 of the PCMCIA's 16 or 32 data lines. Where are those missing data lines going to come from with the adapter?
As for the PCMCIA USB interfaces, they are usually cardbus interfaces. CF does not support cardbus. I too was thinking this same thing until I researched the differences between CF and PCMCIA.
Is this a problem wiht the Ipaq's PCMCIA Jacket? (I know nothing about it, just saw it advertised)

I got the sleve today and it works (used aPCMCIA CF reader and could read the CF cards) but I cant get the USB PCMCIA card to work... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! (Registry editing maybe?) I installed the Ratoc Drivers (including HID and USB Mass Storage) and still no dice...
Please help...
