In the microsoft.public.pocketpc newsgroup, one of my favourite Pocket PC-related place I frequently post to, we have discussed the effects of fragmentation. As a result, frequent newsgroup poster Tony A. (his homepage is here, with some interesting, other stuff) has run some tests and published the results. They can be found here and well worth a read.
