I just spent 7 hours and my day off, trying to set up wireless activsync, and within 3 minutes of reading your help file, I am sync'ing.
Thanks and Happy New Years,

Can surf but not sync!
Ike, I've just set up my axim 5 running WM2003 with senao CF 2511 card and USR AP/router. I have my laptop hooked to the router by ethernet cable.
I'm surfing the web from both axim (wirelessly) and laptop - no problems.
However, I'm having big problems syncing my axim with my laptop. Also sharing folders/files with my laptop.
I have followed your tutorial & read your FAQ's - but still cannot get the axim to speak to the laptop. I do not have any strange characters in my axim ID and the connection profiles are set to "work". The router is working with the axim using DHCP setting.
I understand that without seeing the close detail of my network it's very difficult to resolve my dilemma by "remote" (no pun intended!), but would appreciate if you could give me some further direction, or point me towards further web sites/forums, to assist with possible solutions.
Incidentally, I cannot connect to your referenced MMMMMike's PPCWifi resource page - the browser cannot find the page. Has it moved?
Thanks for your help in advance - and keep up the good work on a subject matter that terrifies us mere mortals!

If you've changed the Axim's name to get rid of the underscore, and have the settings at "Work," the most likely culprit is a firewall. If you have WinXP, make sure the built-in firewall is not active and make sure you do not have ZoneAlarm or Norton Security. These are the three most common firewalls people have on there systems, sometimes without realizing it.
If you do have them, there are ports that can be opened although I tend to trust the NAT on the router and just make sure I have all the WiFi security active (128-bit WEP, MAC filtering and no broadcasting of the SSID if your router allows this).
Thanks for letting me know about MMMMMike's site not being active. I know he was looking for a site to host it so it's either moved or disappeared. I'll remove mention of it for now and do some googling to see if I can find it when I get a chance.

Can surf but not sync
Ike, I checked the IFC on Win XP and it is not enabled.
I have a firewall (Outpost 1.0), but I have WCESCOMM fully enabled.
Is there a simple test I can do to establish if the communication issue is with the setup of the axim, the router or the laptop?

Not that I can think of. Have you tried completely disabling the firewall just to see if it's interferring?

Yup, it's done and gone. The domain and space expired and I've since moved on to other iterests.

Wow, I just performed my first sync wirelessly! Including a full sync of Avantgo!
Ike, it was the firewall - in spite of my giving WCESCOMM full access permissions!
Guess I'll just have to figure out how to work around the firewall (Outpost 1.0) - any suggestions?

Sorted!
Just set firewall netbios to Axim IP.
Syncing thru the firewall - no problem.
Ike, thanks for all your help.

Ike, good job. But I am still having some issues with connecting my Axim x3i with my wireless router when i turn the SSID broadcast off on the router.
I have added th Profile of my router abd added the encryption key for 128 bit WEP

Check out kcuraxim’s post from yesterday in this thread. If I can get some confirmation from a couple of other users that this is a consistent solution to some of the X3i connection issues, I’ll add a note to the How-to.
