However, I think general FAA regulations forbidding decives that operate in a "transmit mode" would rule out BT GPS receivers, but I'm not sure about this. I have noticed that the Axim has a "flight mode" that turns off BT and 802.
If you are flying to DFW, then chances are you will fly AA which forbids the use of GPS devices in-flight.

Though I have flown AA into & out of DFW many times enroute to Mexico, this trip is on DL (FF) miles. We couldn't get into AUS or SAT because of the spring break rush.

Without joking or lying my brother and I got by TSA with not only a pocket knife in my carry-on laptop bag but a 50 caliber LIVE shell in my brothers backpack that he carried on as well that our younger brother had given him while visiting him in Alaska(stationed there). Wrote them a letter when we got back but have failed to hear from them....and it's been about 6 months now....makes me wonder how great of a job they are really doing....

I'n not sure sure that I would have wrote a letter admitting to carrying prohibited items on an airplane, particularly since it is a criminal offense. But that's just me. Perhaps I'm a little paranoid about the police showing up on my door step...

thing is I didnt knowingly carry it through. I realized this while we were on the plane! Im sure they wouldn't dare try to make something of this as i could turn this into something ugly for them. Im sure they dont need the negative publicity.....

I have never taken by AX, gps or any gear but a laptop out for inspection. I have never been asked to take them out either. I have found you can only use the GPS in flight when it is held up to a window and then you do not get very many signals. The aluminum can you are in cuts down a great deal on the signal. I have had no problems with any of my SD/CF cards being scanned.

I was stopped one time in Phoenix. All they asked was that I turn it on and do something with the screen. This was back when the had the change bowl that wasn't screened.

I have not problems getting the Axim and GPS antenna on the flight but using them in flight is another thing because, at least on Lufthansa and United, they always tell us to not use wireless products in flight like mice and keyboards. I would suppose that would also apply to blue tooth GPS. I have never checked. Despite this, I have used my TO keyboard on occasion and no one said anything to me (bad thing was when the landing gear got stuck but I do not think that it had any thing to do with my keyboard). So what the heck, give it a shot.

No problem at all w/ TSA, BUT per AA, you may never "use" the GPS while onboard
their aircraft. (It's states so in their inflight magazine)

TSA actually means Transportation Security Agency? Hmmmmm, I always thought it meant Thousands Standing Around! Learn something new every day.
Yes, I to have had my Ax and GPS through several airports without a problem. Only once did anyone even show any interest in it, and that was in Las Vegas. I usually just put it in my briefcase, or other carry-on bag. I've never even been asked to fire it up. I also carry my spare SD cards with my AX and have never lost any data.

As long as you can show them they work, if requested, they don't usually give you any trouble about bring electronics in the cabin.
As for screening procedures, short of them not letting anything, including keys, pens and pencils, into the cabin, there is no way to prevent "weapons" from getting into the cabin, all this screening really is mostly a joke to make people think they are safe and make them think something is "being done". Anyone truely interested in causing harm can do it with the dozen of items they do allow in the cabin.
Even without normal items, half the styluses are metal and hollow, imagine what you could put in those....
Anyone, back on the original point, you shouldn't have trouble with electronics provided they work. If you have any broken ones or ones with dead batteries that you cannot turn on and prove they work on request, you will need to check those. (Cause you can hide bad things in the broken or not working items.....)
