Since Microsoft started giving out free ebooks, I had updated/installed from scratch the latest Reader on three desktops and two PPCs (including my beloved AximX5). I had no problem with the process. Now, three successful installations is such a small sample amidst the problems many had had. I am not saying MS Reader is bug-free at all. But I would try to write down the process, may be that would help someone.
- Before even attempt downloading the update on the PC, I had the owner or user of the PC to log on to www.passport.net first, just to make sure he/she had or remembered the correct logon password ;) .
- Then I went on Reader’s main page http://www.microsoft.com/reader/default.asp and followed the link to download the update.
- I saved the downloaded file to the hard drive instead of running it. I am not sure if that would make any difference at all.
- Opened the downloaded file. Followed the instruction and activated the PC first
- Downloaded the free ebooks. Made sure the free ebooks could be opened and viewed at the new (PC) Reader.
- Then activated the Pocket PC.
- Manually dragged the ebooks to a subfolder in my SD card via ActiveSync.
That’s it. I hope I remember every step correctly.
