or for yesterday...no TV in the kitchen, so after I got it working, I watched the various news feeds re: Saddam, and the talking head shows! I could walk around the house and always stay in video contact!

I like this idea because I love to lay out in the sun in the summer time... now I can layout and watch baseball at the same time.

I have tested my ipaq in the sun and the view is very watchable.

Ah yes, being on the porch enjoying the summer air and watching TV on your PPC! It sure beats lugging a TV outside.

I don't know BT very well, but it would seem the steps would be similar.. first thing to test is that you can "surf" across BT on your iPAQ. If you can do that, then I suspect you can follow Whitelyt's directions and make it work.

In general here's what you need to do:

1) Make sure you can watch and listen to TV on your computer
2) update your system to Directx9.1b (I think ..at 9 and the latest from there..try Windows update site from Microsoft
3) Download and install the Windows Media Encoder from the MS Downloads site.
4) Fire up the WME and tweak the settings as Whitelyt specifies. You MAY need to tweak a few things differently depending on your specific set up.

5) Once you THINK you're broadcasting, use your Windows Media Player to check it out, and if that works, then try the iPAQ.

I know.., not step by step, but 1/2 the fun is making it work yourself!

Good Luck!

Yes, in theory you could since it is nothing more than remote control software for the PC. I have seen it before but I use VNC since it is free. Not very fast though.

Great! Now my family REALLY thinks I'm nuts! I'm walking around the house "Hey look, now I can watch TV on this thing too!"

It is truely amazing how simple this setup is. Those of you who can remember setting up the modem for a new dos program can appreciate this!

I'm trying to think of the practicle applications of this, I'm thinking of a web cam on the front door (or wherever). Either that or the kid watching TV in his room on the PC. (or video or DVD).

Who said this has to be practicle... its too

On a serious side...

How could this be used if I had a web cam setup to monitor a machine? This could be an app where I have my laptop setup next to a control panel, with a webcam monitoring either the contol screen or a tank etc. I could leave the room and monitor it from the office or meeting room.

Setting up a web cam should be doable with a laptop that is on the network either wired or WiFi. You can install WME on the laptop and use WME to stream your video from your webcam and view it on your PPC using Windows Media Player.

Welcome to the site. While writing this reply, I am watching ESPN here at work which is being streamed from my home computer.

Have fun setting things up!

I think I'll just wait for a tv card for my Ipaq to come out. I've seen the CF card but it's kinda bulky and the batteries don't last too long.

I'd like a nice Sd card format thats powered off the ipaqs extended battery.
