I did have some issues with the video though--I'm running an ATI All in Wonder Radeon, and the video going through the encoder was all "backwards" sort of...not the orientation, but it was almost like a color negative--lots of bluish/orange and kinda dark. I did test the TV viewer app outside of WME and it was okay, so... I ran out of "play time" before I had to come work, so.. more fiddling with it tonight.

Now, I DID fire up the encoder with the bad picture and punched in the URL into the PPC (4155) media player and Voila' instant hand held TV--in LANDSCAPE mode! Just need a good way to change channels now Side note... I'm not sure why my IP address didn't work to connect to the server in WME ( I used: http://192.168.0.2:8080 ) but the alterate URL the encoder gives you sure worked fine.. in this case it was the computer name, so when I entered: http://sherilyn:8080 it connected and worked Fine!

My Encoder System: Win 2000 P4/1.6Gig, 512Meg Ram, ATI All in wonder Radeon, road Runner CATV coming into it via the connector on back. WME 9.0 ( freshly downloaded this am... go to the downloads area of MS, and search for "encoder." I think it was something like #92 in the list. It'll bring down the encoder and some utilities with it. install the SW as usual and fire it up! Then follow Ted's info and you should be a Pocket PC TV viewer in no time!

Once I figure out the video issue, I'll drop a note with the fix!

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this about the color inversions... I was playing with this back in January and I had the same issues... it came down to the fact that you need to make an adjustment in one of the settings...

On the processing tab change PIXEL format from default to "UYVY"

My picture was green and purple... this should fix it...

No it won't. It will have no effect at all on the screen. Since you already have TV setup on your PC that is half the battle. Now the other part is getting WME setup to work with your PC and TV Card to stream. Good luck.

It is fairly easy to setup... not rocket science but then rocket science is not as hard as people think it is...

Will it mess up your screen... I would not think so... but if it does I didn't say it wouldn't... but it has not caused me any issues though I have only used it a few times while cooking in the kitchen... One of the few rooms that does not have a TV... and there are some telecasts I just don't want to miss...

Will this feature work- by playing a DVD movie/or feature on the desktop and be able to stream that information to the PPC?

Can you stream a DVD or video playing on the computer instead? I don't have a TV tuner card on my computer. I can't get it to work so far (video input window in WME just says "Not Supported"). Any suggestions?

I don't think this particular method will allow that. I believe you will need a DVD encoder card for that. I have one and tried to use WME to stream but with the capture process I only get a blank screen.

Nuts. I've gotta get one of those TV tuner cards now. I was considering getting one anyway, to save valuable space in the barracks... just my laptop, instead of a laptop and a 19" TV. At least I can stream audio in the meantime.

okay so if the above doesn't work-- how about those USB type TV "tuners"
that connects to the PC, well, via usb (instead of a PCI card) will that work?

the only way i can watch dvd/videos in my PPC - would be to 'rip' the movies and store them in the hard drive-- which of course-its original purpose was
to bring movies w/ me stored in the CF card. I use RescoFile explorer to retrieve the videos from the pc hard drive.. but the pain of converting the dvd is time consuming (i'm using Pocket DVD studios).

If there's a way to just watch (stream) a movie on my PPC while playing in the DVD drive in the PC- then that would be awesome!!

As long as WME can see and capture from your video device then you can stream. In order to stream a DVD like that it has to be captured while playing then WME can stream it.

Great thread. I can stream across my LAN to another PC and also wirelessly to a Toshiba e755 PPC.

I am using a WinTV card and streaming 320x240 at the "VHS" 30fps video rate. I cannot seem to do 640x480, however, at any of the selectable bit rates. On the server PC, the input preview quickly breaks down to have about a dozen thin horizontal green lines and the audio goes away. Running the WinTV card at 800x600 with its native software is no problem whatsoever.

Any ideas? [The "server" PC is running Win2000, BTW.]

This is phenomenal!
I was able to set up my standalone dvd player at home to send signal to the VHS, then to the video capture card on my computer... and the computer use windows media encoder to broadcast the dvd movie over to my ipaq using wireless...

Now, i just have to figure out how to access my lan computer from a remote location through the firewall.
must..break...through....firewalls!

sounds like port forwarding is needed... time for some network reading wish me luck!

That is definately a way of watching a DVD movie via a stream. Good job.

Yes, you will have to open up the port on the firewall that WME is using to broadcast.

Hi All,
I've been pulling my hair out about this.. I've streamed video on my network successfully... However, i just got a digital tv tuner, and i seem to have codec problems. On choosing the "codec" tab, the msg "an error has occurred. If the error continues, consider reloading the session file, starting a new session, or restarting the encoder." I've tried all those, and it doesnt work! then after clicking "OK" another box comes up saying "the requested video codec is not installed on this system (0xC00D0BC4)"
Any ideas people ?
