I just read about this in Pocket PC magazine, and tried it out. It works pretty good. You can use any .wav file, just as gardin says. On your Axim, use File Explorer to go to My Device/Windows. Then you can sort by type. This will give you all the audio files together. They will have a speaker symbol next to them. You can rename the audio file to one of the default sounds, such as Alarm1. Now when you use the alarm1 sound, it will be your new file.
