1. Open a new folder “Volatile” on the SD card
2. Change the following key, using the registry editor:
from \HKLM\System\Filesys TempPath = \Application Data\Volatile
to \HKLM\System\Filesys TempPath = \Storage Card\Volatile
3. Turn off the pocket pc with the power button for about 30 sec (not soft reset/hard reset).
4. Turn it on again.
Interesting, also interesting that there are no responses to the post. It makes me want to go and have a look for virtual ram drive posts again!
but imagine if you were running a device with SDHC support. All of a sudden you would have 8gigs of RAM! w00t!!!!! I agree though that the read/write speed on the cards would slow it down. Maybe if you used high speed cards?

That "tweak" listed only changes where some programs store temporary files. PocketRAR, amongst others, uses that directory to temporarily extract files to when it is working...
This is not "using SD as virtual memory" as the name suggests, it is simply moving the "Temp" directory.

Some noob over at Xda-developers (in the development and hacking forum section) has something similar, but he is positive that it it works on WM6 Ipaq HX4700 (think I have the model right) only. If Julie or anyone else that is good with ipaqs could look into this, it would be greately appreciated. If the claim turns out to be true, someone here could make something similar for a WM5 pocket pc (X50(v) or X51(v) anyone?).

Unfortunately for some strange reason, the axim's hardware can't take advantage of high read/write speeds
