Question Remote Desktop Software

Is there an easy to setup and use remote desktop software? I would like to run one of my desktop programs from my Axim X51V.

For the reverse process (running your X51v on your desktop), try MyMobiler.

OK, I failed to note that I would need internet access for these. I guess that I just assumed I would not need it.

Here is what the situation is.

I get internet via Hughesnet Sat. I set up the system when ever we move. (Full time RV'ers) So we move a lot. I use a program on my laptop while pointing my Sat dish. If I can access this program with my Axim, I can use the Axim to see the signal strength while at the dish. I have to get a good signal strength, then pass Cross Poll before I can get on the internet.

Any ideas?

BTW. I do have wireless between Laptop/modem/router.

Then it would be VNC. You would install a VNC server on your PC (RealVNC, UltraVNC, TightVNC, etc.) A VNC client for your Axim you can find here.

Installed VNC Server Free Edition on Desktop. Went with the default settings.
Downloaded VNCview and sent it to the Axim.

Launched the Server on the Desktop

Turned on the Wifi.

Launched the Client on the Axim using the lnk. I get the message "Cannot connect. Likely reasons are: Specified computer name or ip does not exist or A network error occurred while establishing the connection".

I tired using the computer name then the Ip address provide by the server. I did not use a user name or password.

Launched Client by going through settings/connections/edit my VPN servers. Added the Ip address in the Host name/ip and VPN type IPSec/L2TP. Used tap and hold/connect and get this message. "VPN server problems. Verify your user name and password, and try again. If the problem continues, turn the device off and try again."

Any help or ideas appreciated.
Thanks, Chuck

Kronalias:

Thanks for the link. Very good info here. Got it all worked out and is exactly what I needed.

Kind of screwed up my desktop icons but hey! it works.

The client in your link is a much newer one than the one that doogald's link lead too.

Thanks again.
Chuck

First off, go to the Datastorm users group and do lots of reading. Look in the Articles section of the forum to get the files. The one I am using on the axim via the desktop is PC-OPI. Pick up the DDSattool and DSLocator. You really won't need any others.

We have been on the road for 5 yrs and the Hughesnet dish is all we use for TV and internet. Works everywhere. Good luck on your retirement. I have been retired for 13 yrs and the only thing I miss is the Days off and vacation.

What is the best way to get TV on your Hughesnet Dish?, I've looked at several ideas, but would like to find what you found to be the best, appreciate your sharing your experience.

Depends a lot on which Sat you are assigned to. I am on SM5 and use what is called a Bird on a wire. (BOW) for Direct TV. There are some Sats that are far enough angle wize from the Dish/Direct Sats that you can't get them. Go to the Datastorm site and ask the question there, Include which Sat you are assigned to.

Another cavet to traveling with a dish is that if you get to an area that the Sat foot print won't cover, you need to change Sat. Hughes will not do this. You would need to go with Motosat via a VAR (Value added retailer) who can do the change for you. As usual that will cost you a little more per month.

You will need a good Tripod and what is called an offset adapter to mount the dish to the tripod.

There are several Dealers and VAR's on Datastorm so you will get lots of info.
