I followed the Updated way of doing this but my question is

is there a way to get the mail sorted...

everything in my gmail accounts (in/outbox, deleted, everything!) falls into my inbox in my x50v??

Don't Panic!

As part of the GMAIL Forwading and POP settings you can check a box that says Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on. That should fix your problems. Better instructions can bre found at this link.
