Aximsitemobileicon Windows Mobile 5.0 Upgrade Question

I have two Axim PDA's. A newer X51v and an older X50v. The older one has Windows mobile 2003 Second Edition. The newer one has Windows Mobile 6 Classic. I would like to upgrade the OS on the X50v to have the same operating system.

I seem to recall that there was some problem with putting the new OS on the older X50v. Can anyone verify or clairify this for me?

The OS Disk I have is labeled Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC. Can I use this OS? Where can I get the Windows Mobile 6 Classic Upgrade OS so I can make bothe PDA's have the same OS?

Any help or suggestions on this would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob P

Before attempting any of the following, be sure to backup all personal files and documents!

First, you need an upgrade CD to WM5 for your Axim x50v. I assume that the "OS Disk" you mentioned is the upgrade CD. Check if it says x50(v) on the disk itself.

Second, once you have upgraded, you now have WM5 A01 English. Now you need to upgrade to the WM5 A02. Use this link: here

Third, you can now upgrade to WM6.1 for the x50v. Doing so will void your warranty with Dell (I doubt you have any). If you brick your device, Dell will not repair it. But we will!

You have a few options for WM6.1 ROMs.
1: Maglite's A02 RC2: here
2: Lenny's A09: here
3. Makuu's VOIP A09: here.

I personally recommend Lenny's A09 Test 2, that seems to be the fastest. But it comes with other programs you may not need. If you just want a barebone ROM, use Maglite's.

Once extracted, you will find a .nb0 and .crc file. If you do not know how to flash, continue to reply to this post and I will help you.

Hi John,
No- I do not have the upgrade CD to WM5. What I have is the original Dell Axim X51v/X51 WM5.0 Getting Started CD. Where can I get the WM5 upgrade CD to A01 English? Do these come with instructions?

I do not know (or recall) how to flash the new OS. Can you help me with instructions?

Then instead, use this to upgrade from WM2003 to WM5 A01.
Sync your Axim and double-click AximUpdate.exe. Follow all directions given.

Again, backup all personal files!!!

Now to continue with Step 2 and 3.

Once you pick a WM6.1 ROM to flash, follow these instructions to flash it. (I'm too lazy to type all that again )

If you really do need help even after reading my text file, refer to this Youtube video for additional assistance: here (Thanks again Drakey!). Although, very few people actually do need to refer to a video. My theory: 1 picture=1000 words therefore 1 video= 1000^2 words!
