Thanks for the reply again..I have tried both front and back..nothing..The thing I don't understand is that it says on the AXIM connected and perptual connecting.. on the desktop.

Well.. the only thing I can think of is check and make sure you dont have a firewalll running (dunno seems to screw people up) and perhaps update active sync to 3.7.1 if that does not work, get a really nice card reader and use that to transfer files. Or you can go for a even more difficult apporach of going wireless, wifi in axim, wifi on computer setup wireless active sync. I know some people have accomplished this, I have no idea how its done as I dont have a wifi network

Dan,
I can confirm what awdark suggested; disable Zone Alarm (after unplugging your internet connection). Let us know if you resolve your problem.

ActiveSync and firewalls

I've had maybe the same problem where my new XP machine cannot recognize my Axim (unknown usb device). If it's the firewall do you need to setup a rule to allow it to sync? Or are you just turning the firewall off when syncing? Thanks. tjm

If your xp cant recognize your axim, try reinstalling or installing the drivers from dell. Preferably form their website. Hopefully the pocketpc will identify then. I dont think the firewall will make it so it wont identify via usb.

OK...
Back to my problem. Is there anyway of fixing this? I know the restore caused this problem, so therefore my hopes of getting my ppc restored with less work is gone. I really dont want to go and hardreset the thing... but its annoying to keep signing in as a guest (only way it will sync properly)

I know someone out there must be able to build a new sync program. Then we can uninstall activesync. BWAHAHAHAh uh ok.. anyways.. there arent any that exists right?

Mad sync Axim to laptop

Two days ago I could sync my Axim to my laptop. Now I get an error message, and then not connected. I have followed the directions under sync troubleshooting with no luck. I have ..
Reinstalled active sync 3.7
removed all sync items, still wouldn't connect.
Soft reset my Axim
check the Usb connection
did a restore on the Axim

Any suggestions out there?

Thanks to this thread, I solved my problem by configuring Zone Alarm correctly to ask if the connection manager and Active Sync could access the internet. To rickgreen, I bet a program like ZA is interfering. After support could not help and sent a replacement, I came here and found the answer.

Just received a replacement X% from Dell (old one died), and had a major problem resting a backup dataset from the original; AS bombed out saying something about "backup set created from different device" or something like that. I set the system settings from the default US English to those on the original device (UK English), resynced (as guest), and am now restoring the original backup.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I hard reset my Axim 5, then did full restore from backup. Then the axim would sync. I lost a weeks worth of calendar, notes, and addresses, since my last backup. I did find part of program Zone Alrarm and removed it. I wasn't using it.

However, now my e-mail inbox will not sync. It is somehow disabled. Any ideas?
