ActiveStink doesnt sync

My axim froze during a soft reset at the DELL screen I ended up hard resetting the thing. (all because I was trying to make a backup)

I restored it with a backup of a month ago and now it doesnt sync. It would connect, and then it would give me a connection error and unsync.

My brother's axim syncs fine, so I assume my setup still works.
Could this have possibly been because the restore failed at 99%? It did bring everything back, but just doesnt sync.

Try unchecking (in Options, Sync Options (tab) on the PC) all the items. If that allows you to connect, try adding one back at a time.

I believe the problem will be a conflict with Partnerships. When you first did a sync after the hard reset it created a new sync partnership between the device and the host. Then you restored your old device name it changed it and it doesn't which one to snyc to. I think your going to have to get rid of one of the partnerships. Help under activesync should be able to walk you through which one to delete........

Apologies if I am beating a dead horse here..I have tried all the solutions so far in the thread.

My Axim says Connected but my desktop still says Connecting (and never connects).

I had it working a few months ago and then stopped using it. Now upon a re-attempt. Nothing. Frustrating.

I have done the following:

1 - soft boot
2 - hard boot
3 - uninstalled and reinstalled Active Sync a couple of times now.

I have tried connecting usb directly and through a hub - nothing.

If it's new, call Dell and get a replacement if you are within 30 days. Wish I could - got mine last January. All ok, great sync etc. right up until I installed WM2003. I have tried all suggestions on this post and many that have never been mentioned. I am dead serious - get a new one. You will waste less time to convince Dell than you ever will beating your head against the touch screen. - mm

Ah found the solution to my problem.
-Deleted my partnership in windows.
-Setup Axim to be normal.
-Sync and set it up to be a guest.

Not perfect.. but it connects.

Thanks. How do I delete the partnership in Windows (XP)? What does setup Axim to be normal mean?

connecting

I spent many hours with Support but this forum helped solve the problem; 2 partnerships were listed, and Zone Alarm was the main culprit. I unplug the internet connection, disable ZA and do a soft reset as insurance.

Open up active sync.
File>Mobile Device>"Device name"

To delete the partnership
File>Delete Partnership

You do loose the ability to sync when in guest mode. But you can at least use the add/remove and copy files into the ax.

Thanks for the response. The only thing under File that is not greyed are Get Connected and Connection Settings.

The axim says connected and user authenticated yet the desktop says connecting only. After 15 seconds the axim drops the fantom connection.

Are there other ways to get at the partnerships since I cannot access them through Active Sync?

If I go to Active Sync on my desktop all I see under file is Get Connected and Connection Settings (everything else is greyed). Where do I go?

Oh... so it never even decided to let you even connect as a guest. Hrmm. Try using a different usb port preferably one on the back of the computer. (front ones are often mean to me. The wire would loosen from the motherboard causing bad connections.)
