yes. the most popular way is using the divx codec with mp3 sound. Search this forum. I seem to remember seeing plenty of posts stating "the best way to make movies for the axim".
hope you've got planty of storage space!

The first posts in the Multimedia forum will help you.
One tells you how to convert the dvd to a .avi file on your computer.
The other tells you how to encode the avi file to divx that makes it small(for me, a 2 hr. movie = 100 mb.)
A few notes
-all the software needed is free and there are links to all of it in the guides
-you will need a dvd rom in your computer to read the dvd and copy it to your pc
-the .avi file will be large (from 1 to 5 Gig) so you need a pretty good size hard drive but you can delete the avi file after encoding to divx so it is only temporary but if you dont have the space you will need another hard drive. (easy to check if you have enough free space, just go to my computer, right click on your hard drive, and select properties)
-also make sure you have a cf or sd card big enough to hold the end divx file. so you can play it on your ax
-the encoding process takes a while and you shouldnt use your computer while you are encoding.(i usually encode at night so it dosent tie up my computer in the day time.)
-For me the i didnt have the same version of divx so I just didnt touch the divx settings(this is just a tip if you decide to encode using the guides and you cant figure out the divx instructions)
-I encode in stereo because i use headphones, in the guide he encodes in mono so jsut select stereo instead of mono when it comes up if you are going to be using headphones:)
-Hope this helps and hope you get your movie on your ax

This is sooo much fun! I have my axim for one week now and getting to know it better and better, but i didn't know it was possible to view dvd's on it! I bought it for GPS but I'm falling in love with the axim itself. Now I only have to find a cool astrology program and I will be really happy

I recorded tv shows using Pinnacle Systems PCTV Delux and converted them to watch on my Axim.

Well I have decided to record a DVD to Axim as well! Now should I just go for the Viking 256MB or 512MB?

grentz - in your previous post you noted...
"The other tells you how to encode the avi file to divx that makes it small(for me, a 2 hr. movie = 100 mb.) "
Would you mind sharing the specific video/audio rate settings you used for encoding? Is your 100mb/2hr movie encoded at 320x240 resolution?
Thanks

^^^His bitrate is probably really low. With Windows Media Encoder i encode 1hour worth in about 100MB at 320x240 widescreen @225kbps with stero audio. At that rate i get great playback. It puts the video in .wmv FYI.

Thanks. Just wondering if divx might offer smaller files with comparable encoding as you mention. Have you experimented with playing a 100MB+ .wmv file from your sd card?

I accually get 1 hour 45 minute movie in 150MB.
A 2 hour 16 minute video i have that is 247MB, just alittle too big for my card but can be streamed perfectly over to my x3i and have playback smooth as silk. The x3i can play these movies fine even with high bitrate but you just need to find room to put the file when you get big MBs.
WMV is smaller then divx FYI
