Exclamation Guide to setup pocket VNC

This is a great way to control anything on your computer via your axim. You can control A media player or even activehome to turn on and off your x10 moduals.

All you need to do is get VNC Server for your computer
VNC Download

and VNC for ppc
VNC for ppc

Copy the VNC for ppc file to your axim(unzipped).
Now install the VNC server program
Check only the following boxes in VNC server (in the current user properties window)
-Remove Desktop Wallpaper
-Poll Foreground Window
-Poll Console Windows only
-Do Nothing (under when last client disconnects)
-Accept socket connections
Leave the rest unchecked and uncheck if checked
Image of user properties

Now in the password box enter a password for connecting

Under Display Number pick any one digit number now hit apply and ok(You should see the VNC icon in your system tray)

now lets move on to the pocket pc side of things.

Open file explorer and find the vnc viewer file you copied to your axim.

now open it and you should get to a screen like this

(if the keyboard is not up just click the keyboard symbol in the lower right corner)

enter your computers network name then : and the number you put under display number in the user properties on your computer.

You now can click enter and close file explorer if you do not see the password box.
now you should see a screen like this

enter the password you put into the password box under user properties. Now, it should have a blank screen for a minute and just let it be, then your desktop should show up. You can scroll to any part of the desktop using the scroll bars and your stylus is the mouse. Bring up the keyboard to type something. It is a little delayed and slow but works great. Your wallpaper on your desktop will be taken off but when you disconnect it comes right back. Pm me if you have any questions.

NOTE: VNC on ppc will always have to be opened via file explorer. It dosent install anything on your ppc so to remove the program just delete that one file.

NOTE2:You MUST have the vnc server running on your pc to connect

Thanks grentz! I have used VNC with PPC2002 but haven't been able to get it to work for WM2003 yet on your link, it indicates that it's for PPC2000, 2002 and 2003. Anyone try it for WM2003?

VNC seems to work fine for me on WM2003.

I've been using Terminal Services Client a bit as well, I'm still deciding whats better for controlling my 2K servers.

Cheers

I used VNC at work, when I did that kind of stuff (work), and it worked great. I actually introduced it to many of my fellow admins. I never could get it working on PPC2K2, but it has been working on WM2K3 great, I love it, especially when you manged Lotus Domino Server. Exchange of course can be managed with TS.

A quick question are the x10 lights on your network? How does your pc activate them?

I have the activehome system which comes with a serial (or usb) cable that on the other end plugs into an outlet. This makes it so i can control my lights via my computer with active home. then i control active home with vnc.

you can see the active home at X10.com

hehehehe i got it for $15 at a garage sale

Question VNC over the internet

Can you configure VNC to access your desktop over the internet and if so, how?

Ah! So I have been beating myself to death trying to get VNC to work over the internet to no avail because it won't work and not that I am completely stupid. Thanks.
