I would mess about with it before you commit data to the little rascal. That way when you have to do a Hard Reset, you won't lose anything.

2nd thing is get a 128MB SD cart (or bigger) so you can run frequent backups and still a) have the CF slot available and b) put all your books and pictures of ???? to show your friends.

Here's a couple recommendations I have.

1) Install ActiveSync on your PC - BEFORE you connect your Axim via sync cable or cradle the first time.

2) I would also recommend assigning a Device Name to your Axim before your first attempt to sync. This name is what ActiveSync uses to identify your PocketPC when it creates the partnership with your Axim. I believe the default name is Pocket_PC. Most people personalize it in some way. You can access the Device Name through Start-Settings-System Tab-About-Device ID tab. If you change the Device Name after you have established your first partnership ActiveSync will think your Axim is a new device the next time you attempt to sync and will create a new partnership. Not a big deal, but could save you a few minutes not having to delete the old partnership and set up the new one.

upgrade activesync

the axim ships with 3.5, but 3.6 was released 7th Feb. I also agree about installing the software before connecting - Dell do say so in the manual, but they don't mention about the cradle. Don't plug the cradle into the pc until activesync is loaded.
Reboot the pc (not necessary but helps)
launch activesync
follow the wizard and when it starts to poll your ports THEN plug the cradle in (with the axim in it). Drivers will then be loaded for windows and then i'd upgrade activesync

Also ensure you push the axim into the cradle *firmly* - if you just pop it in, it will charge, but synching is very unreliable and every time you tap on the screen it disconnects the thing.

It sounds like you have a loose cradel. Mine is very solid andI don't have the problem you have. I would suggest calling Dell and asking for a replacement.

its more of a *tight* cradle - if i push it in firmly then its great. I was just afraid to push it *too* tight the first time. It's certainly not a "drop in the cradle" put a "push into the cradle" type thing.
