Prices of SD Cards
I have been looking around at various sites for prices of good sized SD cards (ie. 256/512mb) and in the US you get very good prices for branded goods (Lexar, Simpletech etc.), as low as approx. $120 while in the UK we have to pay an approximately £180-200 (approx. $300-350) for a 512mb.
This seems to me to be out of proportion and I would be grateful if anyone who knows somewhere in the US that ships to the UK could post/email me the details so I can order from them (I know I will probably have to pay import tax - but it will still cost less), because at this rate it will be cheaper for me to catch a plane to NY and go to CompUSA. If there is somewhere in the UK please let me know as well.
I think we should be able to buy at a similar price in the UK and even accepting the difference in economic structures if these cards can be sold in the US for approx $120 and turn a profit, however small, the price in the UK represents a very large profit so whilst Sandisk quote approximately $500 for their new 1gb card we will probably be expected to have to pay £500+ ($850+). So UK consumers have two choices if they can't find a bargain - either pay up and accept being overcharged or fly to the US, personally I'd rather do the latter (I really like NY).
On a more general note, my experience is that anything I purchase from outside the UK (inc. within Europe) is less expensive, I have just ordered a Piel Frama case direct from their web site and with shipping and taxes it cost me less to have it sent via UPS from Spain than it would to have it posted from within the UK.
Ok that's way more than my two cents worth but I would be grateful for some help or advice with this.
