ActiveSync 3.6

Figured I would save someone else the hunt...here is the link to download from Microsoft

http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/pock...tivesync36.asp

Install ActiveSync 3.6 with as few as six mouse clicks, usually without having to reboot your PC or device. By automatically detecting serial devices as well as functioning through USB, ActiveSync 3.6 gives you the ability to free up ports on a PC for another type of serial device, such as a digital camera. In addition, when you upgrade, ActiveSync automatically detects changes made to supported personal information manager (PIM) software. For example, this allows you to automatically upgrade from Microsoft Outlook® 95 to Outlook 2002 without having to reconfigure your synchronization settings.

Microsoft ActiveSync 3.6 includes all of ActiveSync 3.5's major updates. These updates included the following three improvements:

The New Partnership Wizard now makes it easier for you to configure your mobile device to synchronize with a server. (Note that this functionality is available if your company is running Microsoft Mobile Information Server 2002 or later.)
If you are already synchronizing with a server, the options to configure your server synchronization settings are now easier to use.

Experience increased reliability of ActiveSync communications with your mobile device.

Just so you know...

Microsoft has dropped support for Windows 95, Schedule + and Outlook 97 with this release so you'll need Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000 or XP.

Support for Windows 95 and Schedule+ were dropped with ActiveSync 3.5.

Thanks for the link to Active Sync 3.6. I ran the install and now having some troubles. The active sync logo on the bottom of my desktop is continually trying to connect. It seems the Desktop knows the Axim is connected to the system but some settings are preventing and sync.

Any advice.

Thanks

How about uninstall it and go back to 3.5 from the CD-ROM?

I went to Add and Remove programs. Got rid of Active Sync 3.6 and all of it's files. Unplugged my USB cable and inserted the Dell Setup CD. Clicked the install of 3.5, everything went fine. Tried to open the setup file that was installed and it won't start up. Active sync 3.5 was working fine before I tried the upgrade, so I am not sure what is happening.

Any thoughts?

Thanks again for your help.

I finally got it! I had to run the initial setup from the CD not the file that was copied to my computer. It is now setup on 3.5 again, but I am not sure why 3.6 didn't work. If anyone hears of any patches or setup fixes for this, it would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have expirenced problems with ActiveSync v3.6. On at least 2 occasions the sync process with Outlook2000 running under Windows2000 has seemingly corrupted a control database somewhere. Once corrupted, upon CONNECTED, the process looks for changes and then reverts to NOT CONNECTED. This, even when there are nothing to be synced. The problem goes away once the ActiveSync is reloaded.

Comments/suggestions welcomed.

There is an issue either with Active Sync or Avantgo-

Whenever I try to sync my Axim all files get syncronized successfully until it goes to Avantgo then my axim loses connection while my desktop continues sync attempts.

The only fix I have found is to re-install Active Sync 3.6 before EVERY SYNC and yes it is p*ssing me off.

I am running Windows XP on a Dell machine, using a Belkin USB hub for my Axim (and some other USB devices)

Any suggestions?
