Moving programs into different folder

Got a couple of issues. 1st off all my games I load onto storage card. What has happened though is some games land inside the games folder (and for whatever reason I now have two of them, is there a limit as to number of programs in a folder?). Well some of them installed outside of the games folder. Since they are all on the storage card can I somehow move them into one of the games folders? Also have an issue where I have duplicates of one game that I only installed once but show up in two different places "programs" and "games"

I have Resco file explorer installed as well if that helps in the process.

Thanks,

AARGH!

Are the duplicates .exe or .lnk files?

If they are .lnk, you can just delete the ones you don't want, as they are only shortcuts.

If you have duplicate .exe files, the best thing to do is to uninstall the programs using Add/Remove Programs and then reinstall via ASync to the Card/Folder you want them in.

It is not a good idea to move installed programs. When they are installed, Registry Keys are created and if you move the program, those keys will no longer be valid, but they'll still be there yet the Axim doesn't know that and it won't be able to find the .exe for the program.

Guess my secondary question is are these "shortcuts" like the regular windows desktop, or are these the actual program executables that are on my PPC's desktop?

Shortcuts are *.lnk files. Yes, they are just like Windows Desktop Shortcuts and are not executables. They just put Icons on your Programs screens and point to the *.exe so that the program runs when you tap the Icon.

It is quite easy to try and move the program, and put it back if things dont work out!

This is all down easiest from a Windows PC browsing the PPC.

Move (cut 'n paste) the program folder to where you want it to be, such as into the "Program Files" directory.

Using a Windows PC, browse to the program directory on the PPC where the program is. Right-click on the program EXE file and select the menu option to "create a short cut".
Cut 'n paste the shortcut into the start menu directory that you want to launch the program from, which could be something like:
{internal memory}\windows\start menu\programs

Rename the shortcut, so that it has a nice description.

The next step is to test it! If it works, all well and good... you can delete the old short-cut that wont work now that the program has been moved.

If it does not work, and you dont want to fiddle any further, then you only have to put the program directory back to where it was, and delete the new short cut that you made... and it will be back as before.

I have done this with many applications, and most of them work fine for me!

Simpler and SAFER to simply Add/Remove and ReInstall.

I agree with MrKlaatu it just makes thing easier and you don't have to play around with things to get them to work.

...but when I have (re)installed I only get to specify if the installation is to the internal memory, or to the storage card.
Some apps install into the root of the memory, whereas I prefer them to go into the "Program Files" directory on the Storage Card.

I have not seen where you can specify where on the storage card the program installs to... (maybe I need to have a closer look!)

Worried I'm not sure where to start!

kooKyGuY..........you are one heckuva kooky guy!

I have found that most programs, do not even need to be installed.
You must have one of those Magic Axims!!

I have most programs installed to, the built-in storage.
Not really the best place to put programs.

When installed, alot of them put junk, in the windows directory, that is not needed.
I bet the Developer would beg to differ with you on that point.

After a hard reset, and reinstalling the programs, that have to be reinstalled, but not reinstalling the others that still work, I have 6 mb more free storage space, in the main memory. Some of them, add info they need, to the registry, when they are run the first time, so if I moved it, after running it the first time, it may not work correctly.
That has got to be a set of the most convoluted sentences I've read in a long time. Right up there with:
It depends on what the meaning of the word "is" is. If the--if he--if "is" means is and never has been, that is not--that is one thing. If it means there is none, that was a completely true statement.

I know all today plugins, have to be installed, but at least 80% of my programs, don't.
Again with that Magic Axim.......my Son would just say, "Dad, that's crazytalk!"

I also found a program called cab installer, that lets you choose where cab installer, programs are installed. I am so glad someone made that program.
LOOK, QUICK!!.......there is some sanity here!!!

You could copy the program, to a storage card, then uninstall it and see if it works from the storage card, without being installed.
Oh, Dude!!!............you got a Magic Storage Card, too??!!

OH, now!........I didn't mean no disrespect, just pokin' a little fun.

Take a look at it from the perspective of most of the Users here........it read as a bunch of gobbeldy-gook. Install > uninstall > THEN RUN IT??!!......c'mon man, that is counterintuitive to say the least!

Four posts into the Site and you start talkin' crazytalk, what do you expect? We don't know you or your credentials. A little expounding on what you know and how you know it, would've gone a long way to make the uninitiated understand that you may know wherefore of which you speak.

So lighten up a bit, life isn't all B&W code-on-a-page........have a chuckle every onc't inna while!

Hey, I'll give you a fair shot...........but I still think you're a kooky guy, kooKyGuY!

ps; "is not a community, I prefer, not to be at. ", is a double negative.....so what you're really saying is that you want to be here!! Good Deal!.....I'd miss you if you left!
