Um is there a way to dump the rom for backup then? I recall once finding a site on the Ipaq dumping its rom to load in linux. Reading this is not reassuring.

edit its here http://www.handhelds.org/feeds/bootl...ml#savingwince I cant get it to work on the AXIM...

Same here...

I also updated Media Player and got the same problems that i read here, i've tried to solve it and got it back in it's original state after altering som reg settings except for one thing... i could not get it to display the right icon when listing a WM(x) file. It started Media Player when tapping it but not the correct icon. But before i could fix this i had to do a hard reset this morning anyway so all trouble's are fixed, also did the ROM update. The only thing missing is the Dell skin for MediaPlayer but hey who cares... I'm happy it's all still working after the ROM update.....

If you have installed the update to Windows Media Player and would like to get version 8.5 back, I have a solution. 8.5 is still in your Windows folder. You merely have to reference it. First create a new shortcut for it. Just find it in the Windows folder, copy it, then past the shortcut wherever. In order to get 8.5 to be used as the default player, you will need to edit the registry. There is a tutorial under the Tutorials section on tweaking the registry. You will want to search for "Player.exe". Now change the key values from "\Program Files\Windows Media Player\Player.exe" to "\Windows\Player.exe" Keep searching until you have changed all of these values. Be careful while editing the registry. You are taking the risk of messing up your Axim and having to do a hard reset.

Worried New Axim in a few days.......YIKES!

Two questions:

Long story, but I'm receiving a brand new Axim.....I love all my programs and setups on my original axim EXCEPT for the WMP mess-up I did and I've been living with. My questions are:

1. What's the easiest way to duplicate everything onto my new Axim with the exception of the WMP messup, (by the way, I did a full active sync backup yesterday if that helps at all); and

2. Will my new Axim have the new rom patch (hopefully it will be the 255 C1 chip)!!!

thanks folks

Oops..one more point...On ActiveSync's "add/remove programs" , I noticed that I'd be able to uncheck the Windows Media Player 8.0 for CE, if that helps at all????? In fact, couldn't I even do that now (on my old axim) and resolve the problem???

I just followed Harley's instructions for removing the Media Player udate and it worked for me. No problem, no hard reset.

My WMP got hosed up when I installed the X-TEN SIP phone software. The X-TEN caused a registry entry that broke my WMP. I installed the update in hopes that it would fix the problem, but it didn't.

I found the registry entry that needed to be changed and then uninstalled the WMP update. This got my WMP working again. I'm not able to connect to streaming audio, but I don't know if that's a related problem or not. Anyway, the problem should go away when I get around to upgrading to WM2003.
