Just wondering if anybody has successfully syncd their Axim with a Notebook using IRDA. I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 with Windows XP Pro.
I would like to be able to sync my Axim to laptop as a guest partnership ie not syncing Outlook etc but purely to load software update Avantgo etc whilst I am at home and away from the cradle.
The Notebook sees the Axim and gives the option for sending files but Activesync does not find any connections.
To connect to your desktop computer with infrared, on the File menu, click Connection Settings. In the Allow serial cable or infrared connection to this COM port list, select Infrared Port (IR).
Align the infrared ports on your desktop computer and your Windows Powered Pocket PC 2002 according to the instructions in your owner's manual so that they are unobstructed and within a close range.
On your Pocket PC 2002, tap , ActiveSync, Tools, and then Connect via IR.
It's not in Tools, but under File\ Connection Settings--the first entry.
I've tried numerous times to get into AS 3.5 Connection Settings on my laptop so I could select IR, but it keeps trying to connect, and fails, saying IR hasn't been installed (or something like that). The laptop can see the Ax and exchange files using the Windows IR applet, but I can't set up AS to sync the Ax using IR.
I've heard it has to be synced using a serial or USB cable first. I don't have USB on the laptop and don't want to order the serial cable just to set up AS. Anybody done this successfully?

Jer,
In ActiveSync on the PC, under File, Connection Settings, check the top box, "Allow serial cable or infrared connection to this COM port." and the IR on your PC should associate the IR port with a COM.

I'm using an old Panasonic CF61 running Win98SE. The IrDA software came with the OS or laptop utilities; not sure which. When I open File\ Connection Settings, it tries to connect, fails, then I start all over. Never get the dialogue box with the settings choices. Have tred AS3.7 and AS3.5. Gven your success, I'll try again, although I've uninstalled and reinstalled AS and Outlook a couple of times.
ikehiker,
Ah, I switched the drop down to IR. I'll switch it back and try again. Just trying to get it to work while waiting for wifi card to ship. Thanks. :)
