I've followed the instructions exactally with three different movies. All of them hang during the encoding process at the same frame (19996) and the output file is always 16,384kb, which is EXACTALLY 16 meg. When I tried to encode it using single pass it stopped at exactally 48 meg. i think something must be wrong w/ my system, but i've reinstalled both my audio & video codecs, and i'm running out of ideas.

I've found the problem, and thought I'd post it, just in case anyone else runs into this problem. there were some rogue registry entrys under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Protexis that were left from an earlier version of the Divx Codec. Once I removed this key, it asked for my registration info again, and once i put it in, everything was peachy. hope that helps someone.

I followed the instructions to the tee but noticed a few items which didn't match up and just wondered if it would affect playback.
1. when I went to divx site, 5.03 has been replaced with 5.05, which I noticed there was one instruction which stated, "enter 6.3 in the quantizer box, then click OK and OK again in the choose video compressor window", this no longer exists in version 5.05
2. downloaded the lame mpc3 link that was provided. Hand to check "show all formats on the right hand window and the closest match to fibrizo's suggestion was 22,050hz, mono but 20kbs.
Other then that, "ispy" seems to play in windows media player...now I can't wait for my axim to arrive
In addition, I would like to sincerely thank fribizo for all his time and effort

Would like to add something to my last post:
When I choose mpeg layer-3 vs lame mp3 encoder, I saw the entry "32 kbits/s, 22,050 hz, mono" only after I clicked "show all formats". Does mpeg layer-3 use more memory then lame mp3?

The kbits/sec determines the size and quality of the audio track. So yes 32kbits/sec would take more than 24kbits/sec

Ready to tear out my hair!
OK, I've followed all the guides here and I can do 1 Pass encoding but the audio is way out of sync and the quality is very blocky.
I have tried every combination to use Original 2 Pass, 1 Pass encoding (200 bitrate) but everytime I test playback on the PC I get this error code "RAN OUT OF MEMORY" I try the same file on the Axim and I get a lockup with a black screen.
My first lockup I did a soft reset and lost everything because somehow it did a hard rest (and of course I didn't do a backup first :rolling:
I've reloaded DiVX 5.03 on my PC with XP, redone my files from the DVD, and I'm out of ideas. I've tried reading many different forums but there is no mention of this error!
Last ditch effort to post here and see if anyone has any ideas...
Thanks,
LFNNS
I did d/l Fibrizo's test file and it works fine in the Axim so it has to be something on my PC side that is causing these problems

AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH
8 hours of wasted time today because I can't read! I was speed reading the instructions and missed the part about saving the first avi job as "Original 2 pass, 1st Pass" and saving the second avi job as "Original 2 Pass, 2nd Pass"
Dang! Dang! Dang!
Oh well, live and learn :p
Now to start encoding!

Awesome and then some. I can't thank fibrizo enough. Downloaded and played the test.avi that you provided. The most appropriate clip (Two Towers) to christen my axim with.

I was doing ok till I got to this part;
Now click on "video" then click on "compression" Select "Divx 5.0.3 codec"then click "configure" click on the "profiles" tab. Make sure the "1 - Choose your profile" box is NOT checked. (uncheck it if it is checked and a warning box will pop up. Click "ok to dismiss it)
Divx 5.0.3 is not in there to select, just Divx codec 4.12 selecting that I get a window with no tabs to click on "profiles" I'm stuck. For now I'll try 4.12 and see what happens. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks
oh I think I see what it is...I have to download Divx 5.0.3, But when I use you link all I can see 5.0.4 and 5.0.5 where do I get 5.0.3?
and selecting 4.12 did not work. Couldn't play on my PC or Axim
I'll keep trying but I'm getting to the end of my rope:rolling:

ok, but like I said when I select Divx codec 4.12 there is no tabs in the window so the rest of the Quick Guide doesn't make sense.
I did try codecing with Divx codec 4.12 and it didn't work. when I played it on my Axim to just froze up and I had to do a soft reset.

ACSurfer ~ See the link below for pics of Divx 4.12 screens.
It may help you. Try using the one pass setting for video and see if that helps your movie on the Axim. The quality will be bad but at least you can see if the video plays without getting the black screen. That's usually a sign that the video was encoded wrong.
HERE
If you're not seeing Divx 5.03 in the drop down it's because you don't have it installed or it was installed incorrectly. See DIVX.com for more details.
Hambalan, it's good to hear that 5.05 works with the Axim since it's now available!

letterboxing is a no-brainer
I just encoded a certain popular space trilogy for my soon-to-arive Axim. Being totally anal I was bothered by the stretching and decided to correct it with letterboxing. I was surprised how easy it was, I think you'll be too.
My originals were 640x272
my intended resize 320x136
136 isn't divisible by 16, but 144 is...
In the Resize filter I put in 320 for the new width, 136 for the new height.
Then I checked the Expand frame checkbox and entered 320 for the frame width, and 144 for the frame height. I kept the default black for the fill color.
That's it! now my films are aspect correct and look fantastic.
Now if I could just figure out the audio sync issues
has anyone determined the cause and/or fix for the audio getting out of sync?

Everything went great until... downloaded and installed pocket mvp, played the test.avi on axim, played great. Converted "Ispy" and played avi file on computer's windows media player, played great. Copied file onto compact flash, but when I open file on the axim it just loads and loads and doesn't seem to stop. (ie. circle that "spins" round) Am I doing something wrong? Checked the file size on cf card and is the same as file on computer. thanx
