Can I restore just contacts from a backup?

Does anyone know if I can restore just contacts and calender from a backup? (Not sure where to post this question)

I recently lost my contacts and calander while using mNotes. I have somre previous backups with the data in it but they also contain some system problems - so I don't want to restore other settings. Any one know if you can "select" information out of a backup?

Thanks. tjm

I don't believe that you can; however, can't you just resync your calendar and contact info with your Outlook to get everything back? Probably the cleanest way is just to do a hard reset and then resync your Outlook data back, and then manually reinstall your apps.

Unfortunately I can't resync my data back. I left out that somehow the data got cleaned off my PC. So the data only exists in a backup. I'm trying to restore the data to another Ax (along with my original sync problems), get and export the data, then hard set the Ax to get rid of the problems I was originally trying to clean up. Confusing - yes.

Thanks. tjm

Your above idea sounds like the best solution. I guess I don't understand why you need another Ax, though. Just restore your backup, sync to your computer with Outlook installed, then hard reset your Ax. You can sync to get your data on your Ax and then put on other apps with a fresh install.

You can actually take it a step further by creating a current backup, restoring from your earlier one, sync to restore the data to your PC. Then restore the new backup but when you set up the partnership, don't let the PPC version of your contacts overwrite the PC version.

Thanks all.
My current Ax is a recent replacement. The backup is from my previous Ax which would not Sync with USB. I have been afraid of restoring a problem. I'm going to try it though - if I can restore a problem then I also can hard reset and restore today's backup (slowly through seriel cable). tjm

Update - this did not work.

I tried to restore everything from my previous Ax (backup was prior to recently obtaining a replacement). I changed the device ID to match the backed-up device - however after the restore my device reverted back to the current ID (not the backup that I was restoring). Frustrating. tjm

You might want to restore from one of these 'problem' backups, then install Sprite Backup, make a Contacts, Categories, and Calendar only backup (tons of flexibility there), hard reset, restore from the Sprite file (a self-extracting EXE makes this simpler, if you choose it in the backup options), then start doing your manual rebuild of other data and programs and settings... That's how I'd do it.

I've restored a specific database [like contacts] using Sprite Backup. I have it set to do an automatic backup each Friday at 5AM. That way you have several weekly possibilities [space dependent. They eat up space [mine is 20 meg per backup]. I do cheat and put most stuff on the big SD. That way the backup is mostly the registry, those databases you asked about and My Documents from the RAM.
Good luck

This sounds helpful - thanks. If I can get a backup to actually restore that sounds like the way to go. Thanks. tjm
