Install NIC without Activesync !

I must admit that i hate activesync
So to restore my X5 after an hardreset, i have an dir with SK´s cabinstl.exe and .cab files on a memory card (so i can reinstall all aps without an PC). But the drivers for my netcards (NIC) i used to install with active sync. But yesterday when i had to hardreset (media player was'nt working and i coud'nt sync :rolling:) i had prepared my self. I had done some snooping aroud the registry DB and found the .dll's for the NIC´s and i used TascalRegedit to save (its the only regeditor i know that can save/restore regenties) the entryes for the drivers. And wow it worked.
This is what i saved.
NB! HKLM meens HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

For my TrendNet ethernet card:
The file (copy this to \windows):
le100.dll
The registry entries (load with Tascal):
HKLM.Comm.LE100
HKLM.Comm.LE1001
HKLM.Drivers.PCMCIA.LE100

For my Linksys Linksys WCF12:
The files (copy these to \windows)
PRISMCFG.cpl
PRISMIOC.dll
PRISMNDS.dll
PRISMRES.dll
The registry entries (load with Tascal):
HKLM.Comm.PRISMNDS
HKLM.Comm.PRISMNDS1
HKLM.Drivers.PCMCIA.Linksys-Wireless_CompactFlash_Card-????
(???? is an hex number and will is random?)

NB! Tacal regedit can only load from RAM som copy the dir with reg entrys to \My Documents)

For other NIC´s find the 2 entries in HKLM.Comm, 1 entry in HKLM.Drivers.PCMCIA, and use common sense to figure out wht .dll, .cpl and i supect that some NIC also uses some .exe files.

Ahhhhhh now i just need to figure out how to convert word and excel back and forth without active sync (i dont use outlook on my PC!) and i dont need that shitty ActiveSync annymore.

A whole lot of work to avoid an application that, on the overall, work well.

Don't you sync your PPC to the desktop at all??

Not mutch. My Pocket Pc is my "mother off all" adresses and appointments and i then beam them to my moble if needed.
And i usaly download Excel sheets to my pocket from diferent PC using an IrDA usb key so i would like to awoyd to use ActiveSync profetionaly because you need the Local Administrator password to install it on Windows Domain workstations and its usaly company policy not to give it to users and not alow users to install programs like activesync on company workstations.
And another thing here is to be abel to hard reset the pocket PC away from my home PC. And annyway ActiceSync only runs on window but not on Mac or Linux

You could save youself ALOT a time and effort by using the built-in backup software (or 3rd party) and perform a full backup to SD Card...

Full restore is then simply a click away

I suppose a restore of a full backup using the inbuilt backup utility should restore the registry, installation settings & other customisations and could therefore be used to recover from a hard reset, but has anyone successfully done this?

Incidentally, I also dislike Activesync, mainly because it only syncs with MS Outlook & so forces me to load this piece of bug-ridden rubbish on my system.
