Voice recognition?

I just bought my Axim x30 (high) and I don’t have a keyboard. What I really want is a speech to text program like dragon but …. mobile. Has anyone seen or herd of such ? Cause I really need it!

I think the one that ibm makes is voice recognition that allows ppc to run programs and tasks

speach recognition

OK you guys I am on the right track, I found an IBM-certified speech recognition specialist in mid post here he knows more then any one I know…. You got to here this Conversation
What I found in my search was about 30 different voice command programs but very few true “Speech to text” programs and usually they are very specified like Dragon Naturally Speaking 7’s medical addition which has been adapted to work on PPCs but those are $698 and for doctors only. I am going to continue my search if you can help or have any info continue to post!

I dont think there is one ... I know there
is MS Voice Command, but its not true dictation.

I just dont think a PPC can handle dictation,
theres too much data involved.

Speech to Text is very processor intensive. I'm not sure that the PPC could handle it too well.

Good luck, but I think it's a futile search.

I should have asked you in the first place. And I do believe that 624 MHZ of speed is more that enough! there has to be one!!!:realmad:

Yeah you'd think it would be :)

A few years ago during a conference I think Bill Gates played with some voice recognition software which probably became the current Voice Command software. I think if some decent speech to text recognition software was in the works we'd have heard about it in proof-of-concept and demo releases.

It's worth a search, just don't get your hopes up.

Well, the fact is the speed of the cpu really doesn't matter. It's the cpu's architecture. The 624 mhz X Scale processor just can't handle something like voice-to-text conversion. The whole process is just so complicated...not meant for a ppc. Plus the program would have to have built in 1000's of words to recognize in order to convert them, so a 512 SD card most likely wouldn't be enough, theororetically of course.

Ummmm….. Did you even see Howard2K’s link from above. Not only is it possible Microsoft has almost done it! I can go to the store right now and buy Dragon Naturally Speaking on a frigin 700 mb disk that has Every word in the dictionary memorized for speech to text you aren’t telling me that they cant ether condense it or get rid of some of the less used words! IT HAS TO BE POSSIBLE! And hey the requirements on the back of the Dragon Naturally Speaking HIGH END says that it only takes a 400mhz processor to operate it! Someone is gona convert it some day…… I’m just saying, It can and will be done!
