How do I ActiveSync W/O loosing all my Contacts?????

Hi All:

I sync'd and lost my Contacts on my desktop. So I tried again by choosing the "Replace on my handheld". and I lost all of my Contacts on my Dell Axim 5.

so I went to work( where I had all the contacts), I sync'd and chose to replace on my "handheld device" and it sucked all of the Contacts out of my work desktop. I am scared stiff to sync anymore!!

I have recently heard that I have too many partnerships on too many computers.

Dell support got my Contacts back onto the Axim from my laptop. But now how do I get those Contacts back onto my home desktop AND my work desktop???

Your help is greatly appreciated!!!:)

Thank you,,

If you want to synch with two PCs, the calendars, contacts, etc. will be the same on both PCs, as far as I know.

There may be third-party software available that will let you do more (try a Google search), but not with Activesync alone.

Well first of all, after that first time you lost your contacts, I'd back em up before you sync again anywhere. (Dunno how to do this on your Axim but if your laptop has em I'm sure you can export them to a file or something.) So, after you back them up, what happens when you sync now (between your pc w/o the contacts and your axim that has em)? If you lose them again, restore the contact on your axim (from your laptop if necessary) then poke around in activesync on your desktop and see if you can get it to replace the contacts on the pc and then sync again. This way you should be able to get them back on your pc then remember to set it back to sync the contacts instead of replacing them, otherwise any changes you make on your pc will be lost the next time you sync. I'd keep making up-to-date backups until you get a handle on what's going on.

What did Dell say about syncing with multiple pcs? I'm not sure how easy this is. Can you maybe have everything sync with an exchange server?

I agree with "everkleer" that backing up your data is of vital importance. I learned that yesterday when I had to perform a hard reset for the first time. I used and will continue to use Sprite Backup Premium for my back-ups.

1) Dell doesn't say anything about this. Activesync is MS.

2) Exchange? Forget it.

3) Look here for instructions.
