Working Fix For Activesync Problem
Guys.

While trawling through the dell support problems I found this solution to the Activesync timeout problem. I tries it out with some level of desperation as I've been trying to get this working since about half an hour after I got my Axim. IT WORKED:

1) Empty Temp dir on the pocket PC

2) Remove the file named "picViewSync.dat" (If you have it) in the windows
directory on the pocket PC

3) Perform a soft reset

4) Synchronize again

et voila.. syncing

----

Additional:

Problem reoccured. Carried out above steps without rebooting, just disconnected, and reconnected, and it worked.

----

Thought I'd pass this along given the number of people experiencing the problem

ttfn

Good tip. I wonder if they will 'fix' this. Is that file creation a MS ActiveSync responsibility or another application?

BTW: I always knew Santa was a rat. I never got anything !

V. Good question. I'm guessing its an MS issue as I've heard of identical problems with ipaqs etc.

BTW: Boo's actually very generous. He'll give you all the ratty presents you want :-)

Hey delradie- thanks for the info.

My problem was that active sync always stopped in the middle of syncing Avantgo.

I used the tip you gave me and now it sync's all the way thru.....
then it disconnects. LOL

It is always something-

The only way around it, at least that I have found is reloading Active Sync 3.6 every day!!!!

Were did you get that tip from?? I think I will go there and continue researching my issue.

Thanks

What version of Resco Picture Viewer do you have? Mine is 3.91 and I don't have that problem. (ActiveSync v3.6)

I do have 1 file that won't sync and I can't figure out which one it is. May be this one. *shrug*

OKay, I've done a bit more testing on this now and what it seems to come down to is that you need to have the resco picture viewer activesync module installed on all systens that you sync your device to

You don't need to actually set it to sync this item, just have the module installed

Hope this helps

I've had the Resco Picture Viewer on my Dell almost since day one and synched to my work machine. Never had this problem until recently.

When I've tried to sync from my home machine, that has a recent installation of Office XP, that seems to be when the problem started. Is there an issue with Outlook 2002 on one computer and Outlook 2000 on the other?

BTW This fix works to get the sync working on my work machine consistently. I'll try at home later to see if that will work again.
