Not Safe Mode, but Close Enough!!!!

So, I have read from many people who have had problems with their ppcs going into a soft-reset loop. To this point the only solution I have read is to hard-reset and rebuild. I REALLY didn't want to do that. I noticed that immediately upon reset, the screen was responsive to the menu dropdown, but I couldn't select a program fast enough to make changes. Then it hit me, there are five hardware buttons that are linked to some app by default. So I just picked one (which I happen to have mapped to calculator) and pushed it as soon as the Menu bar was displayed. That pulled up the calculator and prevented the Today screen from trying to display the plugins. From there I just opened start->settings->today and unchecked all 3rd party plugins. Now I can remove the plugin or reconfigure it so that it properly renders. It's a hack, but hey, it's better that reinstalling everything. Hope this can help somebody else before they hard-reset. Good luck.
