Gmail Tutorial Setup For PPC ( with pics)

Gmail setup on PPC (tutorial with pics)

i am running 2003 se on an x30 mid A05 ROM.

BEFORE YOU START BE SURE YOU HAVE POP3 ENABLED IN YOUR GMAIL SETTINGS

1. First enter the program messages on your PPC

2.Now Tap the accounts button, and then hit New Account,

Enter your email and tap next

3. Enter whatever name you want for the 'Your Name' field, doesnt matter, for me i just typed my initials,

Next enter your gmail user ID.

Next enter your gmail password and select 'save password unless you want to type it everytime you send/recieve messages.

Now hit Next.

4. Now on this screen select POP3 for the account type. And name the account, i just left mine named POP3.

Now hit Next.

5. Here is where you enter the Server info for gmail, !!!!!IMPORTANT!!!!!!, you CANT mess this part up. Must be just like shown.

After you enter this info, select options.

6. here is your first options screen

make your screen look like this

7. On this second options screen, check all things i have checked.

I have checked 'use seperate settings', If you check this box you must click outgoing settings and enter your gmail user name and password again. But just make sure you check the 'SSL' connection and 'outgoing mail requires authentication checked'.

Now select next.

8. Here is the Outgoing Settings Window, just enter your gmail username and password, and check SSL.

9. On the last screen you can choose how much of message you want to recieve, i chose recieve all because i get lots of pictures in my email.

Hope this helps some of You all having trouble.

Thanks to DSmithZ28 for the capture screen software link and helping me with the Remote PPC software.

And most of all thanks to aximsite.com (Chris and Mods) for making it such a nice place.

I noticed you have the "use seperate setting" box checked on page 3. Did I miss where you show the "outgoing settings" you used? Nice job by the way.

I've gotta type faster. ;) Are you using a memory cleaning app by any chance katamata? I'm an X50v user myself and I noticed some strange things like you mentioned after cleaning the registry.

You must go into Gmail settings and make sure POP3 is enabled for your gmail account.

BTW: updated with the outgoing settings window

That worked well, One thing though I got a certificate invalid message before it downloaded the messages. Has any one else run into this? I'm going to copy this and make it a sticky in the Tips and tricks forum. Great work jdh :approve:

I didn't see this when I was setting mine up. :(

I was able to set it up and I didn't need the :995 and the :465 at the end of the in/out server setting. If mine works without it, should I just leave it alone or should I change it for some reason?

Thanks!

Jeff

I would add the port numbers at the end of the server addresses. Dont know if you can run without them or not. JDH

JDH,

I just used the settings for Outlook on Gmail's website which did not include the port numbers. In the "other" section, they included the port number in a list of items that might be needed to setup a program.

I don't like messing with stuff while it's working so I'll leave mine alone...until I have a problem! ;)
