Hope I stuck this in the right forum. I want to convert a bunch of my mp3s from one bitrate (192/128) to a smaller bitrate (64/96) for transport on my Ax x50v. I have a few nice fat storage cards, but I am good with 96kb from my headphones so I figure why waste the space.
I can convert to wavs and then reencode with software I currently own, but it's a big time consuming process and no way to automate big baches of files. Is there an app that will convert from one mp3 bitrate to another?
Thanks :rolling:

you can try wme (windows media encoder) not the greates but worth a try. Also another easy way that I know would be to download musicmatch jukebox. It's free, the free version has some limited features, but I think you can encode files using that
I used Windows Meadia Player on my XP machine to sync the music and make the conversion to lower bitrate at the same time... but I also use wma files rather than mp3 cause of size.... Peace.
I use dBpowerAmp. With the right codecs installed, you can convert to LAME Mp3, WMA, OGG, or just change the bitrate on existing MP3's. Be careful not to overwrite your quality files since once you convert, the original quality is gone.
Features batch conversion and Right-Click, convert to.....

Mr. knightmi nailed it. dBpowerAmp from illistrate is the shiznit. It also comes with a very easy to use CD tagging program. Very small and efficient.
I agree!!! I have been using it since 2002 without any problems!!!!
BTW, I used to encode all my 128/160/192 kbps MP3s to 40 kbps mono WM9 WMAs. Each song was about one megabyte, but the quality honestly was quite poorish.
The best thing to do I believe, since most are very limited on space, is to at least encode into 64 kbps mono streams (or less).
All of my music is in mp3 and wma formats right now. I'd say about half of it has been downloaded. I really don't know anything about other music formats and am trying to figure out if it is really worth my time to convert the files to a different format for the sake of saved memory - not to mention any potential loss of use of music protected by DRM.
As far as re-encoding, what software do you recommend? Would I have to do each song individually or is there a program that will re-encode the contents of an entire folder at once? I think right now most of my music is at 128kbs... I'm thinking I can go down to 96kbs... not sure how much the quality will suffer. It might not even be worth my time.
FYI, dbPoweramp is no longer free for MP3 conversion. They had to obtain a license for MP3, which is the reason...however, if you do a search for release 10, that version does not require the purchase of an MP3 license.
I wouldn't convert to lower rate files to sacrifice the audio quality
and...I can build personal FTP, to download my music from home, through hotspot or EDGE
