Ever wondered why some of the Web pages saved with MultiIE or Spb Pocket Plus are completely unreadable?
This problem (if you save a Web page from the two above-mentioned PIE plug-ins, or just locate and copy the cached HTML files off the PIE cache
as described in for example here) has always been causing a lot of headache around the Pocket PC community.
Now that I’m working on my latest PPC Web browser roundup, I’ve played with these files a bit and am proud to say it’s not a secret any more.
These files are compressed with GZIP and can be very easily uncompressed and then, read with any Web browser.
Just rename these files to have a
.gz extension and decompress them. Under Windows, use the .EXE file found at
GZip.org (main page
here; use the
-d parameter for decompression); on the Pocket PC,
CrunchIT for PPC from Noisette Software (unfortunately, the ZIP support in Total Commander/Resco/SPP won’t work – they are not GZIP-compliant).
