WM2003+ Pocket Word users, beware! A just discovered bug
Unfortunately, these two Pocket Word versions have one thing in common: they both crash if you enter too large paragraphs and then, enter ->. Then, all your work will be gone.
This means, to be on the safe side, you should never enter the -> combinations while typing in Pocket Word! Word crashed on me several times before this and a lot of my work has, therefore, gone lost; this is why I started investigating the case.
Just give it a try enter any sentences (for example, “The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.”) some times (use copy/paste) and then, enter -> (you can enter a space before it). If you’ve copied the sentence enough times, Word will immediately crash, killing all your work. (Note that the bug will come out with any kind of text in any language.)
This will the case with all the WM2003 and WM2003SE Pocket PC’s. I’ver even tested this on freshly hard reset PPC’s – they all will crash.
I’ve also checked this on my Jornada 720 and Pocket PC 2000 E-125. They aren’t affected by the bug: it seems to be WM2003-specific. (I didn’t have the chance to test this on PPC2k2 devices.)
this is has been confirmed on my Japanese Axim x50v (WM2003SE), and my wife's Japanese Loox 610 WiFi/BT (WM2003)...
---
well, that is why Pocket Word/Pocket Excel are shortcuts that have been "deleted" from our devices - basically useless... and unreliable (shame on you Micro$oft)
we use either PlanMaker or TextMaker...

wow that's crazy...i just tried it, and it happened to me on my x50 mid (WM2003SE)...
is it only the -> symbol that causes it? maybe that's some sort of hotkey to end the program...weird

Wow. Thanks again Microsoft for providing us with top-quality, bug-free software.
I forget, how much did Pocket Word cost us? Besides, I hardly consider this something earth-shattering given the way PDA hardware and software behave in general.

Well, in very few cases you lose everything you've written as there're very few spontaneous (soft/hard) resets or other system breakdowns (and if you still plan starting an app known for bringing down the system while writing a document, you most probably save your doc before starting the app).
Entering arrows using plain ASCII, however, is much more common and noone would have thought so far that a simple thing like this terminates Pocket Word...
As for me, I've lost my stuff because of this PWord bug several times (this is why I started to try to track down the reason for the crashes), while never because of other bugs/problems. (I write quite a lot with Pocket Word - diary and stuff.)

the cost is no excuse for producing "full of bugs" software... at least, things like this should have been thoroughly tested, something as simple as an arrow "->" causing a total breakdown of the software is totally *****

I just typed "The quick brown foxjumped over the lazy dog 20 times copied and pasted followed by a ->" and it saved fine. What am I missing? I never have problems with Pocket Word - so far anyway.
I couldn't replicate this either. I've tried various combinations of paragraph sizes, etc.
This prob is not guaranteed to appear. Sometimes it does; sometimes, don't. If you, however, "draw" arrows a lot using plain ASCII, it will most likely surface, sooner or later.
i copied a sentence like 10 times, and did the ->, enter thing...nothing. then i did it like 20 times, did the ->, hit enter, and it did it...
it was really weird...

And you can find similar problems with popular Pocket Word replacements like TreNotes and TextMaker (heaven forbid you take a look at the even more popular Today plugins, note keepers, etc. that people actually pay for). This is a free product and I can understand why they put little/none into follow up development... I'd rather them dedicate time to Windows Mobile 5.

Take a look around at PDA software (hell, the hardware even) and tell me they aren't riddled with bugs. Its the nature of the beast in such a young, still developing platform.
I just tried with humerous files, numerous amounts of text, and numerous methods of applying "->" and not a single crash. Clearly this is not a very evident bug if it seems to occur spontanteously and only for a handful of people. I mean Pocket Word has been out quite awhile and this is the first mention of it I have seen. I fail to see how this qualifies as "full of bugs".

Well, it will be evident if it crashes on you, killing hours of work :) It has occurred to me a lot of times, this is why I started investigating the reason for the crashes. Fortunately, it's very easy to avoid crashes if you never enter ->.

Pocket Word has crashed a lot on other people as well (see the linked threads) before my posting this. Some said that it's indeed their entering an ASCII arrow that crashed it.
