What if I submitted a use (assuming it not to be impossible) for the axin to take over streetlights, causing massive loss of produtivity in a major metropolitan area (say Los Angeles) due to the intense traffic conjestion I create. Or say I devise a way to take over 747's and rout them into buildings.
Where is the line drawn?
It's one thing to clown around in your OWN classroom, but another to constantly disrupt the teaching of ANOTHER falculty member.
Regardless of where a school get's is't money from, the purpose of an istructor is to teach. And when an instructor goes about disrupting the efficiency of other instructors for the selfish purpose of personal enjoyment, at the cost of the quality of the students' education, that disruptor is acting in a manner counterproductive to their purpose.
Metaphor:
It is deemed "bad" by society for a person to commit grand theft, but it is in even worse for a Police Officer to commit grand theft.
and MrKlaatu: you are just way too funny!
and speaking of productivity, I really need to get back to my stuidies.
I do enjoy hearing about the (ab)use of the axim for the purpose of advancing the powerpoint presentations on a professor (and I would be lying if I didn't think about doing it myself ONCE), I just find a teacher doing it repeatedly to be a bit dismaying.
Go sneak the tape off your kid's shelves, or your own warm&fuzzy stash, and watch it again. #4 is really pretty obvious if you watch the facial expressions.
Actually, all you really need is Phil Hartman's voice characterization........he's got it spot-on.

This thread is great, and everybody is having fun. Why is it that it's starting to come off as a flame now? I'm not talking to Mr. Klaatu and Joeboo 'cause I believe they are just prankin' each other..
if your old enough. have a drink and read the damn thread. I screw with classes too and it is funny, and I'm sure that Joeboo isn't preventing the Med students from learning basic biology. ;) right Joeboo?????? bad joeboo!
I live in OC, and I see WAY too many immature punka$$ kids who do not take school seriously. Trust fund kids who are just there to please their parents.
It's sickening how they waste the time of those of us who are there to actully take advantage of the opportunity to learn. It's one thing to screw with a class, and another to do it repeatedly. That sh!t get old, fast.
I'm tired of dealing with little punks who don't give a sh!t about other people, and only care about thier selfish enjoyment, and I refuse to condone such behavior.
I guess I am gonna have to cancel my subscription to this thread because I can see that I am going against the grain here. But I said my piece.

Hey man just wanted to catch you before you dissapeared. Best peice of advice given me is "make your own education." There will always be folks goofing off or screwing up in college, students who start parting from Wed through Tue every week, prima donnas who think their daddys can get them out of anything (they are usually the ones driving primo brand new sports cars or SUV's when its obvious they haven't worked a day in their life), teachers who care more about how the students like them or their research than educating the student, athletes who think they rule the school (because they are treated like they do).
You get out of college only what you put into it. It's easy to pass a course with high marks and come out having learned nothing except how to pass the course. Take charge of your own education, you'll come out with something to be proud of. (And you will remember worthless trivia for coctail parties);)
Yeah the purpose of education is to stick your nose to the grindstone and gruel for hours over laborious, tedious and often useless excercises.
Far be it for education to be fun. Wouldn't that be awful? To enjoy education? No we can't do that. We need to elimiate all possible elements of joy from learning. Harder is better. Grueling is better. Hardest and most grueling is best!
This gentlemen is why I do whacky stuff like this and other things to other teachers. Some of them take themselves too seriously -and students hate them for it. Seriousness has its place, but if that's all you ever do then what is the point?
Making education enjoyable is the mark of a master teacher. It is also why I'm the most popular teacher on campus and was nominated for teacher of the year (I'll let you know if I win it). I do not waste my students' time or money.
