I just lost everything even though I have Sprite. That's b/c my sd card data became unrecognizable. All my programs, data and sprite backups were on it. I was able to reformat and reload everything, which has taken up the entire weekend. I must now make a new backup strategy b/c I don't want to go thru this again.
What is your backup strategy?
I'm going to look into storing a copy of my backup on the internet so if I'm out of town and my sd card goes bad maybe I can get the info back. How would yo do this?
I'm going to store backups on my sd card and desktop as well. I won't put them in bis b/c they are too large. How would you do this?
What are your sprite settings? Mine are similar to MrK's. I don't backup persistant storage (BIS and sd card) b/c you won't lose them in a hard reset. However, a periodic backup of those would be a great idea. I backup once per week, I think MrK backs up every day. Is there a disadvantage to backing up every day?
Absolutly no disadvantage whatsoever. I backup every day also, usually at night when Im asleep and its in the charger. If you wish to load information onto the internet, I reccomend FileFront, they have extreamly fast servers and it's 100% free. (If your parinoid about others stealing your file then encrypt the backup file using sprite) Or sending it to yourself via gmail is also a great idea.
I just backup to my desktop and maybe once a month include BIS in there. Seems to be good enough... I like the GMail idea.. Good Luck~

Thanks guys. I just backed up to my pc and pda. I changed the settings to backup every day to the sd card on the pda. I will backup once per week onto my desktop and keep a copy in gmail. Good stuff.
I use ActiveSync's Backup which writes to a Network Attached Storage (NAS). I also use the Axim's backup program which writes to the NAS in a separate directory as well as copy the entire SD card to the same spot. So if the SD card goes bad, then I have a copy of its contents as well.

I make a daily copy to the SD Card and then I also copy daily onto my computer. If I am traveling and lose both my Axim and the backup I will have to wait until I get back home to get it back. I've only had one experience where I lost the SD also.
It would be hard but I think it's uncommon. I do have a copy from when I first got everything laoded and made my first backup saved in Yahoo Briefcase.
I have setup Sprite to make daily backup of my whole Axim at 5am. The backup file is created on my SD card. There are couple of folders on my Axim that I don't backup like IE's temporary folder, MP3s, movies, Temp folder, etc. On my laptop, everyday I run MobSync to copy over the newly created backup file from SD card to my laptop.
I've heard Mobsync mentioned many times. Here's the link. I'm going to check it out. Before I do I'd like to comment that if you use sprite pc service it will put the backup onto your desktop, so I'm curious to see how Mobsync is different. These are great comments that will help many people. Keep up the good work folks.

Yes, using Sprite's PC service, you can copy your backup file onto your PC.
I personally use MobSync, because I have to sync other files too. So I have setup separate "jobs" in MobSync...there is one job to sync backup file, one is for syncing eWallet file, there are couple of other jobs for syncing my office documents in word, excel, text format. Since I have to anyway sync my office documents nearly every day, I might as well as sync my backup file using the same software.
I just use Dell's built in backup utility and back it up to a spare 32MB CF card I have handy - Then I copy this backup to my PC weekly.
Nothing special, but my data isn't really THAT important. The really important stuff is synced to outlook anyways - and that's synced over to my 5600 and backed up biweekly anyways.
I got a few accounts with streamload to store my data on the net. also emailing your most recent backup on gmail works too for a second backup in case something happens to the other. double redundancy works for me. Actually it's triple redundancy since I keep all the current months backups on my CF card too.
A company called Streamload is offering consumers a free 10-gigabyte online storage locker for multimedia files, potentially raising the stakes for larger companies like Yahoo and America Online.
