Fuel Cells The Future??

I have been curious about it for some time. Because regular batteries can't be pushed forward, everybody is waiting for fuel cells. You can see news about them every week. They are not just considered as battery companion, they are planned for everything : Notebooks, UMPCs, and even cell phones. But what do you think about them? Can you live with buying fuel cells regularly or filling them?

Recent news about fuel cells : Notebook PC fuel cell breakthrough promises 20 hour life

Hot-swappable micro Fuel Cell System can run laptop for two days

I can't see the problem with charging a PDA or phone every night. Especially if you have one running Windows as you can jut leave it cradled charging. I can see it for laptops because battery life is rubbish and has always been rubbish.
Next time your filling your car up, don't forget the laptop!!
My "My PDA" now updated with hints and tips including a ROM fix for the RX3700 series and installing Transport Tycoon onto your PDA.

I would want both types of batteries for my devices.

Regular batteries would be far better when you have the ability to easily charge them. Fuel cells would be great for use when recharging isn't an easy option, like on aircraft.

Chris the BIG BIG thing holding fuel cells back is actually air travel, I understand the technology is already viable and could very much be made avialable. The problem is the methanol/hydrogen is too flammable for Airline Carriers to allow on on the plane. I belive that we will see batteries continuing into the furure for fuel cell sensitive areas, everyone else will topping up and powering on!
Thanks

Rich

MY PDA OUT OF DATE, APOLOGIES WILL UPDATE SOON

I hadn't thought of that. You're absolutely right.

In this day & age they would never allow a fuel call on an aircraft.

What about the new Li-ion batteries on the horizon, with triple the capacity of the best currently out there? Just dock and recharge, like we always did.
