Couldn't find the 'Kick A** Device that Chris Wants' Section
Just thought a size comparison of our favorites Axim x51v(purple), iPaq hx4700(Blueish purple), OQO 02(Red)(Device Chris wants), Sony UX series(yellow) The other thing is a pack of cards in green.

Now do you see why Chris wants this?
The OQO is only a little bit larger than our favorite PDA's.

I am the proud owner of an OQO Model 02.

Expensive? Yes, but I had been saving up for it. Plus my employer sees the worth, and payed for part of it. So far, I'd say it has been worth it, since I am able to work (almost) anywhere, whenever.
Small? 5" (diagonal) active touchscreen, less than 6" wide That's right, just sightly bigger than some PDAs.
Instant on: yes, from the moment you press the power button, it only takes 5 seconds to become usable.
It's fun, portable, and does everything you ever wanted an Axim to do.

I really wanted to buy the OQO 02, but without actually getting my hands on one I was concerned about screen size. I bought a Samsung Q1u instead. I like the Q1u a lot, but the form factor of the OQO is simply

The OQO does just feel so right. I went to a MicroCenter to play with one. It may be a little late for you, but anyone else can go to a MicroCenter and play with, ...er "test out" a model 02. Call before going to confirm they actually have some in stock.

Thanks for confirming this feature. Is Instant On a standard aspect of all UMPC's? For other ones, how fast is "Instant?"

I, too, really want a UMPC, but can't justify it if it takes more than a few seconds to come to life. Thanks again.

Great chart. Gonna show this to my wife. Easily the best way to demostrate relative size. Way better than anything else I've seen.

From a cold start, the model 02 takes as long to start as any other PC.

EDIT: The OQO Model 02 now takes only about 2-3 seconds to turn on from Standby.
From Standby, it took about 4 - 5 seconds to get the login screen from pressing the power button, and another second or 2 to be usable. Logically, I put the OQO only into Standby, esp throughout the work day. Since Standby does use a small amount of power to keep data in memory, it decreases battery life by only a small %.

UMPCs in general do not have a requirement to have instant startup, it just depends on each device model. The Raon EVERUN looks really good, check that out; if you need full size keyboard, look at the Lenovo T61. But for brightest screen, and best features in the smallest, just-feels-right package, its the OQO 02.

A lot of folks are quite excited about it. I'd like to see it with a larger HDD. It definitely has a nice form factor.

I would like to see it with a SSD instead of a hard drive. The only way to go portable is with SSD and LED backlit screens. Battery life is number one priority when your portable.

Yep! One of those new 64GB SSDs would be nice in a UMPC! (Of course, I couldn't afford one then!).

The form factor of the HTC Shift is questionable... I wonder how sturdy the screen/keyboard articulation is.
