Asus Umpc

Since there isn't a sub-forum (yet) for the ASUS UMPC, I thought I'd gather some of the info in one place so it is easier to find :)

Looking at the posting date here and other sites it's plain to see that the umpc form factor is becoming a dying breed. I have a R2Hv I've been using as my primary device, while I am happy with it's performance at times a larger screen would be nice.

Well, this site doesn't attract alot of posters who own UMPCs or other types of portable computers, so I think it is hardly justification for such a comment as yours.

I have an ASUS R2H which I love (just updated the RAM to 2GB). I don't use it as my primary computer, even if I got an external screen for it and a full sized keyboard, this particular UMPC is slow compared to other computers.

But that's not what I got it for. I got it to carry in my purse or briefcase and because I wanted to reduce the amount of paper I have to carry around (I teach college). In that regard, this UMPC has exceeded my expectations. Students submit their work to me electronically and I write comments on their papers and email the work back to them....no paper involved and I'm don't have to haul around all that paper any more....truly beautiful!

I would definitely say that umpc is still a niche market, and not as highly adopted as recent tech, like the iPhone and the market dominating netbook. Price of umpc's has remained restrictive for most users

My comment wasn't to upset anyone, I've been on many sites that are umpc related and it's clear to see that the slate form factor in umpc's just hasn't taken hold in the retail market. I guess I should say the U.S. market, umpcportal.com list quite a few but most have keyboards now.

I agree that Net Books seem to be taking over the ultra mobile space (Asus appears to be the leader) and I think a lot of it is due to the fact you can you can walk into a store and put your hands on one.

It is a shame I'm using my R2Hv now as I said earlier I am happy with it, I also am running 2 gigs of ram.

My response here was because of the title Asus umpc.
