I read a few reviews from people who were either given one 'pre-release' or got to play with it at a trade show. It sounds pretty damn good, though being based in the UK, I'd still try and get it shipped from the US (hopefully for around £100, then it really would be a bargain!). The only problem I see is that it's only got a 7" screen, and it's an odd resolution too I think. There's a few rumors though that Asus is planning a 10" version with 8GB onboard flash.... :)

I can't find the article on Gizmodo now, but I saw a chart laying out the details for the 4 different "flavors": all have linux but are winXP compatible, have between 256mb and 1gb ram, from 2gb to 8gb flash SSDD. I believe all have BT, 802.11b, and SD card reader. Prices are said to range from $150-$300ish (Asus hasn't released official US prices yet, but it's said to be available from Best Buy and a few other national chains in the US at the beginning of november!).
It looks like great laptop for travel: internet, e-mail, text reading/writing, shock protected. What's else is needed in travel? And cheap - to not worry about loss in in travel.
I am just wondering: Is any GPS navigator available for Linux? It will be unusefull as travel notebook without GPS support.

The ASUS will be introduced in Germany in december. In Germany only one version will be released in stead of three versions in Taiwan. The German ASUS Eee(QWERTZ keyboard layout) model 701-4G will have 4GB SSD, Wifi B/g and LAN and webcam connections. The screen will be 7 inch (max 800*600) The CPU is a Celeron-M with Dothan core running on 900MHz. Not very fast though OpenOffice start quickly.Of the 4GB the system already uses 2.3GB for the OS leaves you with 1.4GB free.So you need to buy a big SD card with itg.
The Eee will run on Xandros Linux and comes with a bunch of extra applications.
The price will be 299 euro or $438
In Taiwan the price will be between the 216euro and 300 euro ($317-$438)
