PTvnc2 vs. PTvncHiRes

Hello,

Anyone know the difference between PTvnc2 & PTvncHiRes? Is there a trial available for PTvnc2?

Thanks in advance...

-Garrett

Did you try searching for one? If so, did you find a trial download?

I've only found a trial for HiRes.

did you guys try LogMeIN? I heard that it wasn't working on WM5 but they recently updated their server/client app.. so it might be WM5 compatible now.. but I'm just guessing. its free and what I like most about it is that you don't have to be on local network to connect.

Nope, because I'm just looking for LAN access from my Axim to my main comp and media server (both of which already have VNC installed). Just want to use VNC like a remote and after trying and liking the PTvncHiRes trial I was just curious about the difference between the two. I use foobar2000 and jetAudio instead of WMP/Winamp so VNC is really my only choice (unless there's a foobar2k & JA plugin/remote out there somewhere).

I have, too much scrolling needed. Problem is the res is 1600x1200 on one of the machines I want to control. The PTvncHiRes trial fit the entire desktop (no scrolling) in landscape mode

I asked the creator's of PTvnc this same question and here's their response:

Quote:
Hi Garett,

PTvncHiRes can work in full 640*480 resolution on a VGA device,
whereas PTvnc2 only works at 320*240.
Also it's unlikely that PTvnc2 will work on newer WM2005 devices.

In addition PTvncHiRes and PTvncGPRS (which is essentially PTvncHiRes
but only displays at 320*240 though it will work on VGA devices) can both
be used with VNC servers that do not support server-scaling such as RealVNC
and TightVNC for Windows or Linux whereas PTvnc2 only works with
PTeSVNC (supplied) or UltraVNC on Windows. PTvncHiRes and PTvncGPRS
will also work with OSXvnc (MAC).

Note that on WM2003SE and WM2005 devices both PTvncHiRes and
PTvncGPRS must be run when the display is in portrait mode.

Also PTvncHiRes and PTvncGPRS have more viewing options than
PTvnc2 and a much improved user interface, including the ability to
save connection details for quick reconnection.

Note that currently all our VNC client software will only work on
PPC devices with 240*320 or 480*640 displays NOT on the new
square display devices.

We are hoping to upgrade our VNC software so we have a version
that's native to WM2005 and will work on all new devices.

bye
Dave
